ORIGIN OF WORD
MECHATRONICS
• The word mechatronics originated in Japanese-
English and was created by Tetsuro Mori, an
engineer of Yaskawa Electric Corporation in 1969.
• The word mechatronics was registered as trademark
by the company in Japan with the registration
number of "46-32714" in 1971. The company later
released the right to use the word to the public, and
the word began being used globally.
WHAT IS MECHATRONICS ?
• Mechatronics is the
synergetic integration of
different engineering
domains such as mechanics,
electronics and information
technology to create new
products and innovative
solutions.
• Success stories
– CD player,
– Adaptive automatic
transmission ,
– Auto-focus camera
– etc
MECHATRONICS: DESIGN
PHILOSOPHY
• Now mechatronics refers to a design philosophy.
• Mechatronics is a methodology used for optimal
design of electromechanical products.
• The mechatronic design methodology is based on
concurrent instead of sequential approach to
design, resulting in products with better synergy.
