are waiting, carefully read and observe the following
instructions. Write your name and index number in the ink in
the spaces provided above.

This booklet consists of two papers. Answer paper 2 which


comes first in your answer booklet and paper 1 on your
objective test answer sheet. Paper 2 will last 1 hour after
which the answer booklet will be collected. Do not start paper
1 until you are told to do so. Paper 1 will last 1 hour.

1. The table shows the distribution of grades of candidates in an


examination.

(a) Using a graph sheet, draw a bar chart for the distribution
(b) If all candidates who obtained grades above grade 3 were
awarded credit, find the probability that a candidate selected at
random obtained credit.
(c) Calculate, correct to the nearest whole number, the mean grade
of the candidates.

2. (a) In a class of 70 students, 40 belong to the Red Cross
Society, 27 belong to the Girls’ Guide Society and 12 belong to both
the Red Cross Society and the Girls’ Guide Society. The remaining
students do not belong to any of the two societies.
(i) Illustrate the information on a Venn diagram
(ii) How many students belong to the Red Cross Society only?
(iii) How many students do not belong to any of the two societies?

(b) A farmer uses of his land to plant cassava, of the remaining land
to plant maize and the rest vegetables. If vegetables cover an area of
10 acres, what is the total area of the farmer’s land.

3. (a) P = {factors of 30} Q = {Multiples of 5 less than 40}


Find P ∩ Q
(b) A trader saved GH¢ 200.00 for 3 years at 12% simple interest
per annum.
What will be the total amount in the trader’s account at the end
of the 3 years?

(c) Evaluate and leave your answer in standard

form.

4. (a) A box has length 8.0 cm, width 5.0 cm and height 10.0 cm.
Find the:
(i) total surface area of the box
(ii) the volume of the box.

(b) (i) Using a scale of 2cm to 1 unit on both axes, draw


two perpendicular axes Ox and Oy on a graph
sheet.
(ii) On the same graph sheet mark the x-axis from –5 to
5 and the y-axis from – 6 to 6
(iii) Plot and join the points
A(0, 3), B(2, 3), C(4, 5) to form triangle ABC.
(iv) Draw the image A1B1C1 of triangle ABC under a
translation by the vector ( )
(v) Draw the image A2B2C2 of triangle ABC under a
reflection in the x - axis

5. (a) Using a ruler and a pair of compass only;


(i) construct triangle PQR such that ̅̅̅̅̅̅ = 8cm, ̅̅̅̅̅̅ =
6 cm and ̅̅̅̅̅̅ = 5cm;
(ii) construct the perpendicular bisector of ̅̅̅̅ and label it
l1 ;
(iii) construct the perpendicular bisector of ̅̅̅̅ and label it
l2 ;
(iv) Label the point of intersection of l1 and l2 as N;
(v) With N as centre and radius equal to |PN|, draw a
circle.

significant figures.

(i) How many Gonjas were at the rally?
(ii) How many more Fantes than Nzemas were at the rally ?
(c) Draw a pie chart to illustrate the information
