The School Context
The school is an organism which develops a learning process, information and activities. For teachers front of a group is important to know the type of context in which students are developed, levels of learning, knowledge and social and cultural situations in which they are immersed. I have been doing my service social in as English teacher in the secondary school Tcnica no.80, with key word. Located in san Bartolo Oriente A street s/n. Unidad Habitacional san Bartolo. My entry is from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm. (annex I) The construction of the school is very good; the only problem is it has a very small space and small. The structure is of brick, concrete and reinforced with strings. There are 4 buildings; Building 1 with groups of second grade and below is the address, the master bath, the doctor. The school is located almost in the middle of the housing unit, so it's well located. For the observation made during my stay note that economic status of this area is average, and that there are indeed some shops, but very small, therefore the houses of the unit are usually small. In making the tour of the school, observe only two paper mills to supply the secondary, primary and Conalep found together. According to the survey 50% of the students suggest more internet cafe, and 50% stationery. This school has about 450 students. According again to the survey data the majority of students are 75% live near the school, very few come from elsewhere. Usually students come from 5 to 20 minutes. This area is in good condition because they have all the necessary services as well as street lighting, water, drainage. The public is somewhat removed from the school, although most people in this area has own car. It also has the sows that are next to the school which serves to maintain the physical health of the inhabitants. They have signs in this area as wireless Internet, but does not work. Here there is no person responsible for the security housing unit. Therefore the safety of students is in danger, so parents will pick up their children for fear of primary and secondary problems or theft. I think security should have at least the schools because they are primary school children, and adolescents in middle and high school. The school has requested the support of the authorities through trades but has not received a response.
An interesting area is the primary and secondary school teachers are together, is as follows: high school at first, the left primary school, the right side are the sows for the people of the community and behind this the CONALEP. The three institutions are very close to students' homes. Its location is very good, the primary infrastructure is good, is much larger than secondary, and also has a kindergarten in it. In the case of CONALEP have the same infrastructure that the secondary is very small, only 3 buildings, and one for each grade. The atmosphere at these two institutions is very good; I think it would be much better if the schools had a larger infrastructure, as well no problem to reject students for the limited space. The schedule for these two schools is 8:00 am.
It is very difficult for some parents having to buy all the materials requested during the school and the uniform, supplies and books tutoring. Although I find it too over the rules imposed by the school in question hair and shoes of the students. Each morning, the prefect of the school is at the entrance to check this.
Shoes must be brown, like the uniform, the hair should be no hair, just as formal as possible. High school students must have a deadline for the break. The recesses is 20 minutes and think they're very rare, just as students are given time to buy in the cafeteria, the cafeteria also must serve all students and it is very difficult. During the course of this time, students buy food, they are talking with peers, but do not play by the same token you do not have the space to play sports as well that time is very short.
The civic ceremony will be held on Monday at 7:50 am. During this event is the whole school, from administrators, teachers, students and staff. During the ceremony, the governor has yet to discipline students and all sing the anthem. Following this they are given the relevant instructions of the week.
Everything related to meetings are sent to parents with a warning in his book of notices given on the first day of classes. This book is very important because it reflects the student's behavior and important notices to parents.
This technical school is very responsible and discipline is paramount. During the day students have different materials, different activities, as decided by the teacher, depending on your lesson plan. When a teacher does not attend school, must leave a day earlier activities and if not the prefect is responsible for deciding which activities. The class is changing fast, as no student should be outside the classroom. Take care of that the prefects of each grade.
The department provides public education to secondary schools have an hour of workshop and that this method prepares them for working life. There are 3 degrees should take during this time, and each grade is divided as follows: First grade: Spanish, math, science, geography, civics and ethics, history, English, arts, physical education (sports), mentoring, and workshop.
Second grade: Spanish, math, science, II, II geography, civics and ethics II, English II, physical education, arts, history, coaching, and workshop.
Third grade: Spanish, math, science, history, physical education, English III, arts, counseling and workshops.
According to the curriculum, materials, which have longer hours, are math, Spanish and science as they are considered more important for their usefulness in life and these three are related in some way, like all the subjects. The material that students find it more difficult, obviously English, as it requires more effort to learn as a second language for them.
Technical secondary school is usually what comes out later by the number of hours you have, are open from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 pm. 20 minutes more than the general secondary and other details. Also this school has the afternoon shift from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. leaving school students are expected by their parents outside the school, the same insecurity, but some are alone. Some leave with their boyfriends or girlfriends, sometimes go to the park is nearby, but hardly the majority goes directly to their homes because they are very close.
COMMUNITY In this community the information was obtained through observations and some opinions were students. The people of this area most work, since many people leave in the morning to leave their children and go to work. It is noted that because only hope that their children come to school and leave. These observations were made by the survey were asked the students about the support they receive from their parents.
This community has many businesses, since most work outside and this is why there are no facilities that benefit the student community.
Parents who are part of the community mentioned that the school is very good in terms of quality and discipline, which keeps them, informed of all activities undertaken with their children and use them. Is that the reason that they chose this school for their children. They call it good because in a matter of achievement are very good, and teachers are trained to work with their children. Say it is a difficult area, but there have been no problems so far.
On the other hand, mentioned that they are not strongly agree that the middle and high school are nearby, and the guys at the Conalep leave school and are out of school, so I think high school students could be bad influence high school students, as there have been problems in the past for this.
What I think is good is that students do not have any distractions to get to and from school, because there are no gaming machines or someone else have the kids come home late. A distraction could be just couples who have some of them. The traffic in this area is very small, so students are concentrated in the classes and no noise can decentralized, it is an area where many cars pass.
Some people and students comment that the insecurity of the area is by car, as there have been many car thefts today. Some gangs also are near the school and its surroundings, usually in the sows. This is closely watched, because the 3 schools including houses and sows with graffiti. For this reason the school has determined to paint outside the institution, but with fear while they are painted day again, is why has already reported this, but mentions that the authorities have done nothing about it.
Around the school, there are 4 stores, 2 newsagents, a hairdresser, an Internet cafe, the market is, the courts. Some of these establishments are usually about almost inside the housing unit, but the establishments that are around the school are above. Somehow the school and the community living near these facilities are contributing to the economy of this area.
EDUCATIONAL
BUILDING
This school is divided by walls only, is very high and only has an output for the institution, making it very difficult for students seeking to get out of class, plus there's always whoever is guarding the gate. It has four buildings, a cafeteria, a library, civic plaza, a computer lab and a science, three bathrooms, a prefectural office, office managers, an administrative office, an office for the doctor, to union affairs. The four buildings are two floors.
Students have a single entrance and exit. And when looking at other schools too. At the entrance is the office of the prefect, then the first building located on the left on the ground floor is the managers office, restrooms for teachers, workshop accounting, medical school. The second floor is all second degrees. In the building on the left are all first-year grades in the upstairs and downstairs is the laboratory, a group of first, bathrooms, and social work. Behind this building is the building three. Here are all the workshops, such as typing, garment, electronics, welding and forging. Finally the building is in the middle of the school is on the ground floor cafeteria, a group of third and computer lab. Upstairs all third parties. Usually, all grades have good lighting and ventilation. All rooms are of the same structure and space. In all there is a bookcase to store things for students, desks, and benches for students. The only problem here is that classrooms are not equipped with any technological equipment such as computers, digital whiteboards and much less projector.
I think that education would be more meaningful if used these new tools that help students practice better and learn in different ways leaving the dictates and traditional. The benches of the students are very damaged by the time they had there. There are some that are broken, and there are some students who use them well, I see a problem with it, because if a student has the right stuff will have problems in learning is concerned.
For me it is important that high school students use technology as it helps to spark their interest, develop their skills and achieve greater results in school. I have understood that the school has a digital board which is not used because not received the necessary training to use it.
The library is very low in a matter of books and copies, and upon entering is not organized by topic. Some are on the table in the library and have no track when looking for a book. I have noticed that students do not use the library to do research, only to work within it. The taste for books is increasingly little. The computer lab has shortcomings concerned that not all computers work, as well as not enough so that each student has a computer. Students must share and this could not pay attention to the teacher.
The laboratory with which account does not have the materials needed to make the practices of students. The bathrooms are not good. The students have lined bathrooms and water comes out, almost always flooded bathrooms, and then has to use the teachers. One bathroom is closed. The restrooms are not teachers alike are cleaning and repair.
The principal offices are very small; each member of the school has his office. And there's a bathroom on the premises. The office of the medical school is small, just in case there is an accident or a student is upset. Whenever I looked at schools that had a psychologist, or counselor, but in this case there is no one to guide students.
The union hall is located within the school is only concerned when meetings or information to give to teacher. Or in another case if there is any problem with the teacher or have any doubts.
The cafe is in good condition, but like any school space to accommodate all students is very little. Even for the master space is insufficient, so some have to eat breakfast in the hours that have no class. The cafeteria food offered very little, other than a different administration. What is very good to refresh not selling anything, all they sell is drink juice or water. The food they sell to students is varied, but all this does not contribute to the health of students. The director is the actors of the school and who maintains order and organizes activities to be performed throughout the school year. The deputy is responsible for supplying the director when this is not and perform support activities as well as director.
The administrative staff is responsible for keeping documents in order for students to receive documents and offices, sending scores to the secretary of public education, will also archive records of each student, if you need it. I observe that they are interested in their work and are on the lookout for what they indicate direction. In addition they are very nice when a parent willing and give the necessary information.
Teachers are responsible for guiding students to have learning and to have commissions given by the school, such as counselors in a group, also think about activities carried out throughout the school year. That's why we are given from the beginning a calendar of activities as a teacher and consultants who should attend, as well as meeting the parents. We also organize cultural events, etc.
Students are responsible to attend school and achieve new knowledge that will serve you for everyday life and to continue studying.
The coordinator is to coordinate activities within the school and reviewing diagnostic tests for teachers to make them. It keeps the teachers on the days that deliver benefit card or if there are problems within some of the students, as well as receiving the practitioners of normal schools and review their entry and exit. The prefects of the school are two and are responsible for managing the order in the school in all grades and attend to students when a teacher it fails. The housekeeping staff is responsible for keeping the school clean and to promote in students the proper use of material. Promote trash off at school. This school is characterized by mutual support for achieving school goals and delivers the work required. Thus, the principal and assistant principal are responsible for promoting this and direct the activities. Very difficult to observe the teacher in the classroom. In this school feels much pressure that teachers have the principal. I think it's best to take a well-planned control, as they also keep a record of communication with teachers allowed to work out much better. Decisions made by the director are followed by all members of management.
The school principal has a good relationship with administrators and some teachers. There have been problems with some teachers but have been resolved. On the other hand, parents are responsible for reviewing the work of their children and are aware of what is inside the school, showing interest and support at all times. Attend meetings convened by the school to know about their children and how they are going with the masters. Parents that the school is very good and has good performance for their students. The remark I made I realized that there are some problems about communication between students and their parents.
It is important that they attend this meeting given to the school, informing them from time to manage their children, materials to be used, some fees that should be done, and so on. On leaving school some parents wait for their children, some accompanied by their friends or partners. There is no place near here that distract students, such as game stores, etc.
In my observation in the school, the use of recess time is very little for the students, each student leaves with friends to eat food. All waiting to come out before and soon after in the cafeteria. Some decide to take some home, so that sometimes it does not give time to eat for the time and many students. The civic ceremony, students keep their composure and perform correct all that pertains to civic act, and the hymn, and so on. Sometimes governors should intervene so that students remain silent.
The meetings are convened by the direction and then the faculty advisors are responsible for notifying students and they write in the book that were given from the start of classes, where they record the meetings, notices and reports by teachers .
High school students are teenagers who are in a process of physical and psychological changes. Tend to require much attention, and understanding with parents and teachers. Teachers must be aware that the student is a boy with questions; they tend to become aggressive and vulnerable at a time. Trying to understand these changes is important because we all had that stage and we understand what it feels like a high school student in those conditions. Teachers should serve as a support to students and use this to get them learning.
Adolescents generally have different characteristics secondary to the degree in which enrolled, and that I could observe between practices. A clear example of this is the first teenagers tend to be more relaxed, doing whatever is asked of them, sometimes they are very impulsive.
This is a time to meet new friends, finding peers who have similar tastes and interests to theirs. When I present to teach in high school and I had a group of first, I liked working with them, the first thing you notice is that some are a little quiet for the same reason they do not know some of his peers, but then leave adapting to it. Otherwise the second they are a little more rebellious and they do things without thinking, act without thinking the consequences. Here the guys start with other interests like talking about their boyfriends or girlfriends, etc. And finally the third group has more interest in football, girls, boys, fashion, personal appearance more noticeable, the girls wear makeup, etc
The importance that students have the school is diverse, many of them believe that they come to school because their parents send them, others because they like learning new things, and others to meet new friends. In conducting the survey believe that they are motivated to learn something interesting that catches their attention that makes them easy and fun as always use the book to them is boring.
Some of them think of leaving school to enter school, they want to be older, to have more benefits; therefore they have different perspectives on what they want in this period, they do not think something about the school.
Some students entering the school I found that are still sleepy and even that they notice when the teacher enters the classroom. The only free time they have is when physical education or recess. The school is too small to perform an activity, why physical education when they like, because at least they do something they enjoy doing, which is to play and unwind for a while. In general, students in this school do not do anything more out of school.
Attitudes are very different from each grade, the first one can obey because even feel alien to that degree, but the second are challenging that attitude where the teacher can not do anything. In this school there have been some specific problems in this grade.
And third, the boys are somehow a bit more focused and aware that the last year they have to take advantage of the school. You can not generalize that all grades are well, but some do have these attitudes that I observed during my practices.
They say they want more classes to be more dynamic interaction between them, which made working groups etc. Specifically I was with them in grades three and second, they say they believe better learn new techniques with games. I think it's a good way to teach, but be careful not to get out of the curriculum and to make dynamic help students have a learning, that is all carry a purpose and a result.
On the other hand, students behave when they are with friends or when they have much more confidence with their peers. Sometimes you may notice that between them are called by nicknames. For them it is a good way to get attention or to simply annoy some colleagues, I think the teacher should mediate this and try to teach them to show respect among their peers.
Something very interesting in this school was when I was with the group in an activity that made the English teacher. He gave them to put the goals and mission are in school, as well as give an opinion on it. This activity had the students reflect on what they want and know what you think of the teacher. Most gave answers that helped flattering to know that they would like. As was the opinion of the teacher who showed with the teacher.
The four groups that I have in my charge are very good and workers, the activities I have been put before me and worked well with them also have been with them on other occasions and have responded very well. It is good to keep a good relationship with students so you can communicate with them and also with no fear or bother to ask questions you have during the process.
The problem for students is the fact when doing homework, they say that sometimes leave them a lot and that gives them time to do it. I think this is where parents come to watch your child take all the requirements of the school.
I think all the factors involved in the school are the key to success of students, pupils, teachers and principals, so that all work carried out in school, each doing their responsibilities are within it. In addition the school used to give an opportunity for students and prepare them for life, and part of a society with values.
