Lesson Breakdown:
Objective: Get the students excited and introduce the theme of family.
- Start by greeting the class: “Good morning, everyone! How are you today?”
- Tell students today’s lesson is about family. Ask them: “Who is in your family?”
- Quickly introduce the words for family members: grandfather, grandmother, mother,
father, sister, brother.
- Let students practice saying these words by pointing to themselves or pretending to act
like direrent family members.
- Use the SB page 16 activity: “Listen, look, and say” (activity 1).
- Show flashcards or pictures of each family member and say the word aloud: “This is a
grandfather. This is a grandmother” and so on.
- To engage them more, ask: “Who’s this?” while showing the flashcard. Students respond:
“He’s my grandfather” or “She’s my sister.”
- Ask students to stand up and act like a family member. For example, “Pretend you’re a
grandfather! How does a grandfather walk? How does he talk?”
- The other students guess: “Who’s he?” The student acting out the family member
responds: “He’s my grandfather.”
- Teach the students the family song “I Love My Family” (SB page 17).
- Play the song once, and have the students listen carefully.
- Play the song again, and encourage them to sing along with you:
Break (5 minutes)
- Use the SB page 17 activity: “Look at 3. Ask and answer” (activity 5).
- Pair students up and have them ask and answer questions about family members.
- Use the SB page 17 activity: “Look at 3 and circle the correct answer” (activity 4).
- Show images of direrent family members and have students circle the correct answers
based on the question: “Who’s he?” or “Who’s she?”
- Walk around the class and assist students as they work on circling the correct answer.
- Sit the students in a circle and use a soft ball for the Family Toss game.
- Toss the ball to a student and say, “Who’s he?” or “Who’s she?” while pointing to a family
flashcard.
- The student must answer correctly (e.g., “He’s my father”), then toss the ball to another
student.
- Once they’ve finished, ask students to present their drawings to the class, saying, “This is
my family. He’s my grandfather. She’s my sister,” etc.
- Review the family members learned today by asking, “Who’s he?” or “Who’s she?” and
having students respond.
- Next Lesson Warm-up Activity: Begin the next lesson with a “Family Matching” game,
where students match pictures of family members with the correct names.
