Lesson Plan: My Family

Lesson Duration: 90 minutes

Focus: Naming family members, asking and answering questions about family members

Learning Objectives:

- Students will learn to name family members (grandfather, grandmother, mother, father,
sister, brother, me).

- Students will practice asking and answering questions about family members (e.g.,
"Who’s he?" "He’s my grandfather").

- Students will sing a family-themed song and engage in fun activities related to the family

Materials Needed:

- Flashcards or images of family members (grandfather, grandmother, mother, father, sister,


brother)

- Audio for listening activities and the family song

- Whiteboard and markers

- Drawing materials for a family portrait activity

- Soft ball for a group game

Lesson Breakdown:

1. Warm-Up: Family Greetings (0-10 minutes)

Objective: Get the students excited and introduce the theme of family.

- Start by greeting the class: “Good morning, everyone! How are you today?”

- Tell students today’s lesson is about family. Ask them: “Who is in your family?”
- Quickly introduce the words for family members: grandfather, grandmother, mother,
father, sister, brother.

- Let students practice saying these words by pointing to themselves or pretending to act
like direrent family members.

2. Introduction of Family Vocabulary (11-25 minutes)

Objective: Teach students how to name family members

- Use the SB page 16 activity: “Listen, look, and say” (activity 1).

- Show flashcards or pictures of each family member and say the word aloud: “This is a
grandfather. This is a grandmother” and so on.

- Have students repeat after you.

- To engage them more, ask: “Who’s this?” while showing the flashcard. Students respond:
“He’s my grandfather” or “She’s my sister.”

3. Vocabulary Practice: Family Role Play (26-35 minutes)

Objective: Reinforce family vocabulary through acting.

- Play the acting game from SB page 16 (activity 2).

- Ask students to stand up and act like a family member. For example, “Pretend you’re a
grandfather! How does a grandfather walk? How does he talk?”

- The other students guess: “Who’s he?” The student acting out the family member
responds: “He’s my grandfather.”

- Rotate roles so everyone gets a turn to act and guess.

4. Listening and Speaking: Family Song (36-50 minutes)

Objective: Practice family vocabulary through music.

- Use the SB page 17 activity: “Listen and sing” (activity 3).

- Teach the students the family song “I Love My Family” (SB page 17).

- Play the song once, and have the students listen carefully.

- Play the song again, and encourage them to sing along with you:

- “My father, my mother! My sister, my brother!”


- Add simple actions to represent each family member, like pointing to your mother or
father.

Break (5 minutes)

5. Asking and Answering Questions About Family (51-60 minutes)

Objective: Practice asking and answering “Who’s he/she?” questions.

- Use the SB page 17 activity: “Look at 3. Ask and answer” (activity 5).

- Show a picture of a family and ask, “Who’s he?” or “Who’s she?”

- Model the answer: “He’s my father,” “She’s my sister.”

- Pair students up and have them ask and answer questions about family members.

- Rotate partners to give students more practice.

6. Worksheet Practice: Circle the Correct Answer (61-70 minutes)

Objective: Reinforce understanding with a worksheet activity.

- Use the SB page 17 activity: “Look at 3 and circle the correct answer” (activity 4).

- Show images of direrent family members and have students circle the correct answers
based on the question: “Who’s he?” or “Who’s she?”

- Walk around the class and assist students as they work on circling the correct answer.

7. Group Game: Family Toss (71-80 minutes)

Objective: Practice family vocabulary through a fun group game.

- Sit the students in a circle and use a soft ball for the Family Toss game.

- Toss the ball to a student and say, “Who’s he?” or “Who’s she?” while pointing to a family
flashcard.

- The student must answer correctly (e.g., “He’s my father”), then toss the ball to another
student.

- Continue until all students have had a chance to answer.

8. Creative Drawing: Family Portrait (81-90 minutes)

Objective: Encourage creativity and reinforce family vocabulary.


- Hand out drawing materials and have students draw a picture of their family.

- Once they’ve finished, ask students to present their drawings to the class, saying, “This is
my family. He’s my grandfather. She’s my sister,” etc.

- Display the drawings on the classroom wall to celebrate their creativity.

Wrap-up & Next Lesson Warm-Up:

- Review the family members learned today by asking, “Who’s he?” or “Who’s she?” and
having students respond.

- Next Lesson Warm-up Activity: Begin the next lesson with a “Family Matching” game,
where students match pictures of family members with the correct names.
