GLOBAL HISTORY PROJECT-GRADE 4

Project Title: A Journey through Mayan Civilization"


Objective: Students will identify and explain how cultures of the past have impacted and
shaped the world we live in today.
Research Background: The Mayan people are not lost. They still exist in Meso America in
southern Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, and westernmost El Salvador and Honduras. Look at
the map below to see where the Mayans live now.

KEY QUESTIONS: Answer the following questions in your research:


1. Were there any Mayan inventions which we still see/use today? If yes, describe
these inventions.
2. Why do you think the Mayans were able to survive the test of time? What factors do
you think contributed to their survival? Explain.
3. How are the Mayans of today different from the Mayans of the ancient time? Pick
any two factors and derive a comparison. Use picture evidence to support your
answer.
4. Has the use of technology impacted the lives of the Mayans? Explain your answer
through evidence and reason.

TASK 1: Make a PowerPoint Presentation on the salient features of the Mayan


Civilization.
