While Google Earth can be a cool tool to just play around with, it can be so
much more than that. In fact, many professionals use it for different
purposes.
NAVIGATIONAL TIPS
⚫ You can change the color and thickness of the path using the options under the
Style, Color tab.
⚫ Once you have drawn the path and chosen the options, click OK.
• You can also edit the path later by right-clicking on the path name in the
Places panel and selecting Properties. You can measure the distance and
area of your path by clicking on the Ruler icon above the map.
CONCLUSION
In this project, we used GIS to identify the optimal locations for installing
solar panels in Paralakhemundi, Odisha, India. We considered various
factors, such as solar radiation, land use, slope, aspect, distance to roads,
and population density. We applied a weighted overlay analysis to
combine these factors and generate a suitability map. The map showed
that the most suitable areas for solar panels are located in the south and
east of the study area, where the solar radiation is high, the land use is
agricultural or barren, the slope is gentle, the aspect is south-facing, the
distance to roads is short, and the population density is low. We estimated
that these areas have the potential to generate about 500 MW of solar
power,
