Arithmetic and Geometric Progression Worksheet

Instructions: Solve each problem, showing all working steps clearly. Where necessary, use a
calculator.

Section A: Arithmetic Progression (AP)

1. 2. Find the nth Term

- Given the sequence: 3, 7, 11, ..., find the 20th term.
- In an arithmetic sequence, the 8th term is 21, and the 15th term is 49. Determine the
first term and the common difference.

2. 3. Sum of Terms
- Calculate the sum of the first 30 terms of the sequence: 5, 9, 13, ...
- The sum of the first 15 terms of an arithmetic sequence is 330, and the common
difference is 4. Find the first term.

3. 4. Worded Problems
- A certain number of seats in a theater are arranged in 30 rows, forming an arithmetic
sequence. If there are 25 seats in the first row and 2 additional seats in each subsequent
row, find the total number of seats in the theater.

Section B: Geometric Progression (GP)

4. 2. Find the nth Term

- Given the sequence: 2, 6, 18, ..., find the 10th term.
- In a geometric sequence, the 5th term is 48, and the 8th term is 384. Determine the
first term and the common ratio.

5. 3. Sum of Terms
- Calculate the sum of the first 12 terms of the sequence: 3, 9, 27, ...
- The sum of an infinite geometric series is 20, and the first term is 8. Find the common
ratio.

6. 4. Worded Problems
- A ball bounces to half its height with each bounce. If it falls from an initial height of 16
meters, find the total vertical distance traveled by the ball before it stops bouncing.
