Standards-Based Lesson Plan (Week 4)

Teacher: Ms. A.Jacobs Date: Monday 16th September, 2024

Grade: Three Age: 8-9 years No. of Students: Nineteen

Subject: Health and Family Life Education Unit Title: Self and interpersonal relationship

Lesson Title: Hobbies and Interest Duration: 45 minutes (1 lesson)

Standards Addressed Strand 1: Self and Interpersonal Skills

At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

1. Define what is a hobby.

2. List three benefits of having a hobby
3. Write a sentence about what they like to do in their free time

1. What is a hobby?
Focus/Essential Question(s)
2. Why do we have hobbies?

Hobbies are activities you do in your free time.

Benefits of having a hobby

● Hobbies are fun

● They help us grow and develop

● They challenge our minds and bodies

● Hobbies help us spend our free time wisely

Vocabulary Hobbies, interests, swimming, fishing, walking, singing, reading,


drawing

Previous Knowledge Students should be able to state ways in which they enjoy their free

time such as playing cricket, football, dancing, reading, etc.

Differentiated Instruction The teacher will use a video and real-life dramatization to help
students understand the lesson objectives.

Students will be orally questioned during the lesson. Students will


be asked to write one to three sentences about how they like to

Starter/Bell ringer Game-Simon Says

Step 1

The lesson will begin with the teacher asking the students about
what they like to do in their free time. The teacher will record the
student’s responses on the board.
Introduction

Step 2

The teacher will then declare the lesson topic and objectives.

Activity 1

Using the list of activities students like to do in their free time the
teacher will then use one word (HOBBIES) to summarize all the
Procedure activities.

Activity 2 (Whole Class Discussion)

Students will be asked to take out their health textbooks and turn to

page 6. Two students will be asked to read the stories to the class.

After the reading, the teacher would orally question the students.

Questions

1. What do Robert and Kathy like to do in their free time?


2. Which child do you think is making better use of his/her free
time?
3. How do you think Kathy could make better use of her time?
4. Why should people find good things to do in their spare
time?

Closure The main points of the lesson will be recapped.
