    Tourism Skills Assessment

    Task

    Aliyah Ebrahim Grade 11B


    Question 1:
    1.1) I am writing to appeal the fine that has been issued due to a tourist eating food on the Gautrain.
    This tourist has a case of Type 2 diabetics which makes it essential for them to eat every 3-4 hours to
    obtain their blood sugar. The tourist was feeling light headed and decided to eat something because
    they were starting to feel faint. They took out a nutritional bar to help the faint feeling that was
    caused due to the low blood sugar and the long ride. The rules state that while on the Gautrain, no
    passenger should be consuming food. It is an understandable rule considering there are certain
    people who cause a mess and who would leave their dirt around, yet under these circumstances it is
    unacceptable to not allow someone with a medical illness to not consume food to obtain their blood
    sugar. What I would recommend is that certain passengers who need to eat food due to medical
    purposes, they should bring a doctor certificate to prove that they should be allowed to eat.

    1.2) I feel that smoking e-cigarettes should not be allowed on the Gautrain. It is harmful to the
    people who are in the train and inconsiderate. Some people might not be comfortable being in a
    train where smoking is allowed. It can be harmful to them, breathing in the second hand smoke goes
    into people lungs and can damage it, some people might also be traveling with children or minors
    and not what their children exposed to things such as smoking.

    1.3) The three ways travelers can be considerate while traveling with the Gautrain is by making sure
    it is clean, keeping a clean environment for the passengers sitting next to you and not letting your
    dirt stink or take up space. Offering seats to people in need for example, elderly, pregnant women or
    disabled people. It is important to be considerate to the people who may need a seat to make their
    transportation more comfortable and enjoyable. Personal space, you should keep your hands to
    yourself and not take up unnecessary space.

    Question 2:
    2.1) I would say Tunnel 2 in the best escape route for the group of volunteers. It is a straight path
    towards the medical help. The reasons for my choice is because it is more convenient for people
    with disabilities, in the case of someone being injured it would be the quickest way to get help, it is
    the safer route to getting to the medical help, it is the most simples route, that way no one gets lost
    and it makes it easier for the whole group to stick together so that no one gets lost.

    2.2) Tunnel 2 is very simple, it is just one straight path which makes it easier for children to not get
    lost ad for the people with special needs for the route is straight forward and leveled, there won’t be
    turns, chances of getting in danger or getting lost.

    2.3) The stream buildings says shows a poison sign at the roof, the rodents might get killed by the
    steam and it will keep the rodents away from the tunnels that are at the bottom. They could also
    have people coming in to keep the tunnels clean.

    Question 3:
    Electronic Stores, for chargers and accessories. Fast food restaurant, for the travelers to get a quick
    bite before the train arrives. Luggage services, to ensure that all your luggage is safe and provide
    more luggage storage. Bookstore, for travelers who enjoy reading on their trip. Pharmacies, for
    people who might get sick on the ride.
