SENSORS
Or CONTROL DEVICES

Emergency stop circuit specifically designed to manage a sensor with reed contacts. The
contact, sketched in the description, is a set of NO contacts connected in series/parallel
which make when a mass is placed over them.
Contact making of the sensor causes the output contact of the device unit to break.
The control device is indispensable to check in a continuous way proper working of the
sensort, that is to be sure that when the sensor is stepped on, it generates the desired electric
signal.

A control device is capable of controlling several sensors (see technical specifications) but
it cannot perform the self-diagnostic function indicating which edge is faulty.

For zones with several sensors installed side by side, it is recommended that a self-control
device is used every 3 - 4 sensors.

Maximum surface of sensors which can be controlled through a single control device:
GP02/E GP02/E-S2 5m2 GP03 GP03/S2 10 m2.

01
ELECTRONIC CONTROL DEVICE
Type GP02 and GP02/S2

The purpose of the control unit is to continually check the operation of the sensor.
Two channels detect voltage at the sensor terminal leads (or bumper assembly) and
each channel switches a safety relay equipped with forced trip contacts (generally,
the relay is energized). When voltage drops by +/-10%, relays are de-energized and
drop out. On the point of view of safety, the two units are identical; the only
difference is that Model GP02/S2 is fitted with more contacts and is provided with
terminals (3-4) for the feedback contacts input for interface contactors. Each time the
sensor is activated, the control unit runs a self-control. This is also done each time
the equipment is started up. Also provided are 2 terminals for the input of a "TEST"
signal which switches On/Off the self-control circuits of the device simulating the
activation of the bumper sensor and checking the system efficiency.

04
ELECTRONIC CONTROL DEVICE
TYPE GP02/E GP02/E-S2

The objective of the control device is to continually control the functionality of the sensors.
Two sensors relays with forced trip contacts detect voltage at the ends of the sensor (or set of
sensors).
The relays, normally energized, drop out when one of the following conditions occurs:
Power failure
Activation of the sensor
Faults internal to the control device
Interruption of the inner circuit of the sensor or of connecting cables
between sensor and control device.

The supply voltage applied to the sensor is limited via a current limiting device with relevant
pilot circuit in order to prevent high short circuit currents to take place during the making stage
of the sensors.
At each making cycle of the contact the device performs a self-control function as it does each
time the equipment is started.
Input terminals are provided for TEST signals that turn on and off the circuits of the control
device thus simulating the sensor activation and verifying the proper operation of the system.
In the event a device without reset is used, the reset function shall be supplied by the machine
control system (see 594-1 1996 Standard).

ELECTRONIC CONTROL DEVICE
TYPE GP03 AND GP03/S2

The purpose of the control device is to continually control the functionality of the sensors.
Two sensors relays with forced trip contacts detect voltage at the ends of the sensor terminals
(or of a set of sensors).
The relays, normally energized, drop out in case one of the following conditions occurs:
Power failure
Activation of the sensor
Faults internal to the control device
Interruption of the inner circuit of the sensor or of connection cables between
the sensor and control device.
Diminishing of insulation resistances between the two sensors.

The electronic circuit built-into the device is capable of detecting when a given contact
resistive threshold is exceeded. This causes the system to shut off.
This characteristic is of paramount importance in that it permits controlling the degree of
deterioration of sensors due to inner or outer reasons.
The safety level offered by the two devices is identical; the only difference is that type
GP03/S2 has a higher amount of output contacts.
At each Up/Down cycle of an operator on the sensor, the device controls itself, as it does each
time the equipment is started.
Terminals are also provided for the input of a "TEST" signal that turns on and off the circuits of
the control device thus simulating the sensor activation and verifying the proper operation of
the system. For the input of feedback contacts, it is also used to verify the good operation of
relays or remote control switches used as interface for the emergency stop.
Control devices are supplied with an automatic reset function but they can be easily
converted into manual reset types.
In the event a device with automatic reset is used, the reset function shall be supplied by the
machine control system (see 594-1 1996 Standard).
