Now that you have answered each word correctly, it means that you
already have an idea of the terms that you will encounter as we continue
with our lesson. Let’s move on to our next activity.
During/Lesson Proper (25 minutes)
Reading the
Key This is a group activity. (Groups are assigned earlier.)
Idea/Stem You will watch a short video clip. After watching it, you need to
(15 minutes) answer the following questions. Assign a representative from your
group to present your answer later.

(The teacher asks the students to read the questions aloud.)

1. What have you observed from the video?

2. What plant care did you observe in the video and how does it
help produce a bountiful harvest?

(After the students read the questions, the teacher presents a 1-

minute video clip that shows proper care and maintenance of crops.)

for and maintain crops. The video shows different ways to care for
and maintain crops like preparing vegetable beds, weeding and
cultivation, applying organic fertilizer, and watering.

Excellent! All your answers are correct. Thank you for sharing your
thoughts. It is interesting to know that you learned something from
the video.

Developing Land preparation is the first step in crop production to ensure that
Understandin crops can produce excellent quality yields. It is important to provide
g of the Key plants with good soil conditions for their development.
Idea/Stem
(15 minutes) This time class, let’s have another group activity.

Directions:
1. Each group is given a picture that illustrates the proper care
and maintenance of crops.

plants to enhance their availability from natural sources is known
as fertilizer application. This is a process where farmers apply
nutrients to the soil to serve as food for plants.

Expected/Possible Answer: Weeding and cultivation.

Weeds lead to the reduction of crop yield, increased production
costs, and increased incidence of pests and diseases. To control
weeds, the following methods are used: hand weeding,
6

mechanical cultivation, and application of pesticides. Cultivation

makes the topsoil loose to increase its capacity to absorb water
and it also kills the weeds or unwanted plants. Cultivation is done
after planting and before the crops cover the ground. One of the
aims of soil cultivation is to help plants grow better.

reducing loss in harvest yield.

Excellent! You’ve shared your great ideas on how to care for and
maintain crops.

Deepening (To deepen students’ understanding of the lesson, the teacher asks
Understandin the following questions.)
7
LESSON SCRIPT IN TLE 7

1. Why is fertilization one of the important components of crop

production?

Expected/Possible Answer: The use of suitable fertilizers can

ensure the crops’ nutritional requirements. Soil analysis for available
plant nutrients is important before adding fertilizers to any crop.

2. When it comes to fertilizer application, especially when using

chemical fertilizer, why is it important to use Personal Protective
Equipment (PPE) when applying it to the crops?

Expected/Possible Answers:
Chemical fertilizer may affect our health if we do not use appropriate
Personal Protective Equipment. When applying these chemicals, use
gloves that are suited for the chemical. You should also use a mask
when applying powder fertilizers.

3. Why is cultivation important in crop production?

Expected/Possible Answer: Cultivation is important because it makes

the topsoil loose, increasing its capacity to absorb water. It also kills
weeds or unwanted plants.

fertilizer application, pest control, irrigation, and weeding of plants.

6. What will happen if farmers do not apply proper care and maintenance to
their crops?
Expected/Possible Answers:
Failure to apply proper care and maintenance to crops may affect the
amount of harvest that may cause stress to farmers. Problems may arise
which may also result in family conflict.

Great job, everyone! I am impressed by your responses.
