Dual Mode VHF/HF concurrent operation with SoundModem and EasyTerm by UZ7HO

Windows 10 computer

Installation:
Create folder structure:
C:Users\HamPrgs\UZ7HO\VHF and
C:Users\HamPrgs\UZ7HO\HF
Copy SoundModem.exe into each (both) folders
Create desktop shortcuts for VHF SoundModem and HF SoundModem
Right-click and drag each to desktop; select "Create Shortcut"; rename for HF and
VHF
Copy EasyTerm into each folder
Create and rename shortcuts for EasyTerm HF and VHF

VHF Soundmodem Configuration


(Equipment: SignaLink to VHF transceiver)
Open VHF Soundmodem program

Select Settings/Devices (Sound Card)


Set Output and Input devices to VHF SignaLink
Enable (Check) the following:
"Single Channel Output"
"Color waterfall"
"Stop waterfall on minimize"
Server Setup:
Leave port numbers at 8000 and 8100
Enable both AGWPE and KISS ports (Checked)
PTT Port: NONE for SignaLink
Click OK to close

Select Settings/Modems (Modem Settings)


Modem filters ch. A:
Enable (Check) KISS Optimization
Leave other items at default

Modem Type Ch. A:


Set Mode to AFSK AX.25 1200bd
Leave other items at default.

Disregard Ch. B.
Click OK to close

VHF EasyTerm configuration


Run EasyTerm
Open Settings/Station Setup
Enter your callsign with and SSID suffix (-2 recommended)
Leave Mailbox Callsign blank; also Digipeaters in Beacon Setup
Leave TNC Setup at defaults (Port 8000)
Paclen can be changed if desired. Default is max 80 characters per packet.

Click OK to close.

Test configuration

Run SoundModem and EasyTerm


Working with another station, attempt to connect and communicate.
Type a short string into the middle window and press <ENTER>; The transmitter
should transmit.

SoundModem Configuration for HF


Equipment: HF transceiver with CAT control, or connected with SignaLink

Open HF Soundmodem program


Select Settings/Devices (Sound Card)
Set Output and Input devices to HF interface or to SignaLink
Enable (Check) the following:
"Single Channel Output"
"Color waterfall"
"Stop waterfall on minimize"
Server Setup:
CHANGE port numbers at 8001 and 8101
Enable both AGWPE and KISS ports (Checked)
PTT Port:
NONE for SignaLink;
Set to CAT Control COM port for transceiver if appropriate
Click OK to close

Select Settings/Modems (Modem Settings)


Modem filters ch. A:
Enable (Check) KISS Optimization
Leave other items at default

Modem Type Ch. A:


Set Mode to AFSK AX.25 300bd
Leave other items at default.

Disregard Ch. B.
Click OK to close

HF EasyTerm configuration
Run EasyTerm HF
Open Settings/Station Setup
Enter your callsign with and SSID suffix (-3 recommended)
Leave Mailbox Callsign blank; also Digipeaters in Beacon Setup
CHANGE TNC Setup TO Port 8001
Paclen can be changed if desired. Default is max 80 characters per packet.
HF Operation may perform better with shorter packet lengths.
Click OK to close.

Test configuration
Initial tests should be done at low power into a dummy load.
Type a short string into the middle window and press <ENTER>; The transmitter
should transmit.
Arrange with another station to establish contact on a suitable agreed frequency.

Dual Mode operation


With HF programs running, also launch the VHF programs (SoundModem VHF and EasyTerm
VHF)
Test operations on VHF and HF with other station(s)
