Quest
No. Question
The following table shows the distribution of 128 samples :
1 No. of 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0
defective
items :
No. of 1 7 23 30 35 19 6 7
samples
:
Fit a binomial distribution to the above data, and find the expected frequencies, if the
𝟏
chance of the machine being defective is 𝟐. Find also mean and the variance of the
fitted distribution.

Fit a second degree parabola to the following data :

2 Year 1991 1992 1993 1994 1995 1996 1997 1998 1999
Y 4 8 9 12 11 14 16 17 26
Certain articles, 0.5% of which damaged are packed in boxes containing 120 each.
3 What proportion of the boxes are free from the damaged articles, and what
proportion contains 2, or more damaged ones ?
Given below are the particulars relating to two independent samples:
4 Characteristics Sample 1 Sample 2
Size 400 600
Mean 20 21
Standard 3 2.5
deviation
Test the hypothesis at 1% level of significance that both the samples were drawn from
the populations having the same standard deviation.
Further, if the standard deviation of both the populations is 2.75, then examine the
proposition that there is no significant difference between the standard deviation of
the two samples.
5 Derive mean, standard deviation, first four central moments, coefficient of skewness
and Kurtosis in poisson distribution.
If on an average, rain falls on 12 days in every 30 days, find the probability
6 i. That the first 4 days of a given week will be fine, and the remainder wet,
ii. That rain will fall on just 3 days of a given week.
Fit an exponential curve 𝒚 = 𝒂 𝒆𝒃𝒙 to the given data
7 x 1 5 7 9 12
y 10 15 12 15 21
8 The monthly income of 1000 employees are normally distributed around a mean of
Rs. 2500 with a standard deviation of Rs. 250. Find the number of employees whose
monthly income would be
i. Between Rs. 2000 and Rs. 3000
ii. Less than Rs. 2000
iii. More than Rs. 3000.
9 An insurance agent has claimed that the average age of policy- holders who insure
through him is less than the average for all agents, which is 30.5 years. A random
sample of 100 policy-holders who had insured through him gave the following age
distribution :
Age last 𝟏𝟔 − 𝟐𝟎 𝟐𝟏 − 𝟐𝟓 𝟐𝟔 − 𝟑𝟎 𝟑𝟏 − 𝟑𝟓 𝟑𝟔 − 𝟒𝟎
birthday
No. of 12 22 20 30 16
persons
Calculate the arithmetic mean and standard deviation of this distribution and use
these values to test his claim at the 5% level of significance.
10 Derive mean, standard deviation, first four central moments, coefficient of skewness
and Kurtosis in binomial distribution.
Note:-
1. Odd Roll Numbers will do Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4 and Q5.
2. Even Roll numbers will do Q6, Q7, Q8, Q9 and Q10.
