ANSWER KEY
Calculate the number of students in each stream

Given:
- Total students = 2450
- Ratios: Mechanical : Electrical : Electronics = 12:16:5
- Number of students in IT are 140 less than 66 2/3% of total students in Mechanical.
- Number of students in Civil are 30 more than the sum of students in IT and Electronics.

Let's denote the number of students in Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics as M, E, and
Ec respectively.

Calculate students in Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics:

M + E + Ec + IT + Civil = 2450

The ratio given is 12:16:5, so we can say:

M = 12x, E = 16x, Ec = 5x

12x + 16x + 5x = 33x

33x + IT + Civil = 2450

Let's solve for x:

33x = 2450 - IT - Civil

Next, we need to find IT and Civil students.

IT Students:

IT = (2/3) * M - 140

IT = (2/3) * 12x - 140

IT = 8x - 140

Civil Students:

Civil = IT + Ec + 30

Civil = (8x - 140) + 5x + 30

Civil = 13x - 110

Now we have all the expressions. Substitute them back into the total equation:

33x + (8x - 140) + (13x - 110) = 2450

33x + 8x + 13x - 140 - 110 = 2450

54x - 250 = 2450

54x = 2700

x = 50

Calculate the number of students:

M = 12x = 12 * 50 = 600

E = 16x = 16 * 50 = 800

Ec = 5x = 5 * 50 = 250

IT = 8x - 140 = 8 * 50 - 140 = 400 - 140 = 260

Civil = 13x - 110 = 13 * 50 - 110 = 650 - 110 = 540

So, the number of students in each stream is:

- Mechanical: 600
- Electrical: 800
- Electronics: 250
- IT: 260
- Civil: 540

Step 2: Calculate the number of boys in each stream

Given:
- Number of boys in Mechanical is equal to 77 7/9% of total students in Civil.
- Ratio of number of boys in Electrical to that in Civil is 3:2.
- Number of boys in IT are 37 1/2% of the number of boys in Civil.
- Number of boys in Electronics is 210 less than the number of boys in Electrical.
- Total boys in all the departments together are 1260.

Let's denote the number of boys in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, IT, and Civil as BM,
BE, BEc, BIT, BC respectively.

Boys in Mechanical:

BM = (77 + 7/9)% * 540 = 700/900 * 540 = 7/9 * 540 = 420

Boys in Electrical:

BE / BC = 3 / 2

BE = 3/2 * BC
Boys in IT:

BIT = 37.5% * BC = 0.375 * BC

Boys in Electronics:

BEc = BE - 210

Total Boys:

BM + BE + BEc + BIT + BC = 1260

Substitute all equations into the total:

420 + 3/2 * BC + (3/2 * BC - 210) + 0.375 * BC + BC = 1260

Combine like terms:

420 + 3BC + 0.375BC - 210 + BC = 1260

420 - 210 + 4.375BC = 1260

210 + 4.375BC = 1260

4.375BC = 1050

BC = 1050 / 4.375 = 240

Calculate the number of boys:

BM = 420

BC = 240

BE = 3/2 * 240 = 360

BIT = 0.375 * 240 = 90

BEc = 360 - 210 = 150

Step 3: Calculate the number of girls in each stream

Girls in Mechanical = 600 - 420 = 180

Girls in Electrical = 800 - 360 = 440

Girls in Electronics = 250 - 150 = 100

Girls in IT = 260 - 90 = 170

Girls in Civil = 540 - 240 = 300

Step 4: Answer the questions

55. How many streams are there in which the number of girls are more than the number of
boys?
- Mechanical: 180 girls, 420 boys
- Electrical: 440 girls, 360 boys
- Electronics: 100 girls, 150 boys
- IT: 170 girls, 90 boys
- Civil: 300 girls, 240 boys

Answer: 3 (Mechanical, IT, Civil)

56. What is the difference between total number of girls in mechanical and IT together and
total number of boys in civil and electrical together?

Girls in Mechanical + Girls in IT = 180 + 170 = 350

Boys in Civil + Boys in Electrical = 240 + 360 = 600

Difference = 600 - 350 = 250

Answer: 250

57. What is the average of number of boys in mechanical, civil and electronics together?

Average = (420 + 240 + 150) / 3 = 810 / 3 = 270

Answer: 270

58. If 20% of students from mechanical got shifted to IT and now the total number of girls in
IT become 250, then find the number of boys left in Mechanical after shifting?

20% of Mechanical students = 0.2 * 600 = 120

New IT students = 260 + 120 = 380

Girls in new IT = 250

Boys in new IT = 380 - 250 = 130

Boys left in Mechanical = 420 - 120 = 300

Answer: 130

59. Number of students in electronics are approximately what percent of total number of girls
from all streams together?

Total girls = 180 + 440 + 100 + 170 + 300 = 1190

Percentage = (250 / 1190) * 100 ≈ 21%

II.
1. Given Information:
- Number of people who like only Pepsi (P) = 165.
- People who like all three soft drinks (A) are 1/5th of people who like only Pepsi.
A = (1/5) * 165 = 33
- People who like only Limca (L) are 166 2/3 % more than people who like all three soft
drinks (A).
L = 33 + (1662/3 / 100) * 33 = 33 + (500/3) ≈ 33 + 55 = 88
- People who like only Pepsi and Limca together (PL) are 20 more than people who like
only Limca and Fanta together (LF).
PL = LF + 20
- People who like only Fanta and Pepsi together (FP) are 30 less than people who like only
Pepsi and Limca together (PL).
FP = PL - 30
- Number of people who like Pepsi (P total) = 350.
- Ratio of people who like Pepsi to that of Fanta is 7:5.
P total : F total = 7:5
F total = (5/7) * 350 = 250

2. Define Variables:
- x = Number of people who like only Limca and Fanta together.
- x + 20 = Number of people who like only Pepsi and Limca together.
- x - 10 = Number of people who like only Pepsi and Fanta together.

3. Total number of people who like Pepsi:

P total = P + (PL) + (FP) + A
350 = 165 + (x + 20) + (x - 10) + 33
350 = 165 + x + 20 + x - 10 + 33
350 = 2x + 208
2x = 350 - 208
2x = 142
x = 71

4. Find the number of people for each category:

- Only Limca and Fanta together (LF) = x = 71
- Only Pepsi and Limca together (PL) = x + 20 = 71 + 20 = 91
- Only Pepsi and Fanta together (FP) = x - 10 = 71 - 10 = 61

5. Total number of people who like Fanta:

F total = F + (LF) + (FP) + A
250 = F + 71 + 61 + 33
250 = F + 165
F = 85

6. Total number of people who like Limca:

L total = L + (PL) + (LF) + A
L total = 88 + 91 + 71 + 33
L total = 283

7. Total number of people who like any one or more than one soft drink:
Total = P + L + F + (PL) + (FP) + (LF) + A
Total = 165 + 88 + 85 + 91 + 61 + 71 + 33
Total = 594

8. Difference between number of people who like only Limca and number of people who like
only Limca and Fanta together:
L - LF = 88 - 71 = 17

9. People who like only Fanta are what percent of total people who like Fanta:
Percentage = (F / F total) * 100 = (85 / 250) * 100 = 34%

10. People who like only two soft drinks are how many less/more than the people who like
only one soft drink:
Only two soft drinks = PL + FP + LF = 91 + 61 + 71 = 223
Only one soft drink = P + L + F = 165 + 88 + 85 = 338
Difference = 338 - 223 = 115
60. D. 594
61. C. 17

62. A. 34%

63. B. 115

64. C. 283

units, 8 units and 6 units. Till 6th day, person B has done 2*8 = 16 units Percent work done

66. A) 6.8
Let the total work be LCM of 10, 15 and 20 which is 60 units. Work done per day by A is
60/10 = 6units Work done per day by B is 60/15 = 4units Work done per day by C is 60/20 =
3units In 3-day span A works 2*6 unit, B works 2*4 units and C works 2*3 units which is 12
units, 8 units and 6 units. Work done in 3 days = 12+8+6 = 26 units On next 3 days = 26 units
Remaining work = 60 – 26*2 = 8 units. Since, on 7th day A and B are working, and on that
day together, they can complete 10 units, So, the work is completed on 8/10 +6 = 6+0.8 = 6.8
days
67. B) 8.33
Let the total work be LCM of 10, 15 and 20 which is 60 units. Work done per day by A is
60/10 = 6units Work done per day by B is 60/15 = 4units Work done per day by C is 60/20 =
3units Since B work only on day 2nd of the cycle: On day 1, 6 units work is done. On day 2,
7 units work is done and on day 3, 9 units work is done. On 3-day cycle total work done is
6+7+9 = 22 units Work done in 6 days = 22+22 = 44 Remaining work = 60 – 44 = 16 units
On day 7, 6unit work is done On day 8, 7unit work is done On day 9, 16 – 13 = 3unit work
needs to be done. 3 units work is completed in 3/9 = 0.33 days. So total days = 8+0.33 = 8.33
days
