IMPROVEMENT OF EVACUATION CENTER

BARANGAY CALIMPAK, GUINAYANGAN, QUEZON

CONSTRUCTION METHODOLOGY

GENERAL
The work to be undertaken shall include the furnishing of all materials, labor & equipment for the
construction of the building complete as shown in the plan and as specified hereinafter.

SITE WORK

SCOPE
Includes mobilization & demobilization, demolition, clearing, excavation, filling & backfilling and
grading

FOOTINGS
All footings shall rest on natural ground and in accordance with the plan

SOIL BEARING CAPACITY

If the required soil bearing capacity is not obtained during excavation as indicated on the plan based
on soil analysis, if there is, excavation shall continue until such required is obtained. Lengthen piers
and walls accordingly and in the footings enlarged to suit the new condition.

STOCKPILE
Stockpile excavated materials for use in backfilling. Materials required to fill more than that produced
by excavation shall be sand or earth free decayed vegetation, rubbish or debris. Fill & backfill
materials shall be compacted thoroughly until such a rate is attained in accordance with the plan.

STORAGE OF MATERIALS
Cements, reinforcing bar, and aggregates shall be stored in such manner as to prevent deterioration or
intrusion of foreign matters. Any materials that have deteriorated or have been contaminated shall not
be used for concrete.

STRUCTURAL CONCRETE
Specified compressive strength of concrete, (f’c) shall not be less than 21 MPA based on 28 days test.

SCOPE
Includes all concrete works for building.

MATERIALS

A. CEMENT
Cement shall conform to the Portland type of any standard commercial brand in 40 kg per bag.
Cement used in the work shall conform on which selection of concrete proportion as based.

B. AGGREGATES
Concrete aggregates shall conform to one of the ff. specifications: Fine aggregate shall be clean,
hard course river sand or crushed and free from all deleterious particles. Nominal size of coarse
aggregates shall not be larger than: a. 1/5 the narrowest dimension b/ sides of forms, nor b. 1/3 the
depth of slab, nor c. ¾ the in. clear spacing b/w individual reinforcements

C. METAL REINFORCEMENT
a. Reinforcement resisting earthquake induced flexural & axial forces in frame members & in
well boundary members shall comply w/ ASTM A 706, PNS 49 Grade 275 and or Grade 415.
b. Reinforcement shall be deformed reinforcement.
c. The min. clear spacing b/w parallel bars in layers shall be db, but not less than 25mm.
d. Splices shall be as required for Class A or Class B splices, but not less than 300mm and shall
be staggered as far as possible and with a min, separate of not less than 40 bar dia, In no case, shall
splices be made at critical points of max, stress unless approved by the Engineer.

D. WATER
Water to be used in mixing shall be clean and free from injurious amounts of oils, acids, and
organic materials or other substances that may be deleterious to concrete reinforcements.

CONCRETE PROPORTIONS
Proportion of material for concrete shall be established to provide workability & consistency to
permit concrete to be worked readily into forms & around reinforcements under conditions of
placement to be employed, without segregation or excessive bleeding, thus, Class “A” (1:2:4)
Mixtures for all reinforced concrete beam, column, slabs, footings, and pedestals Class “B” (1:3)
for all other non-structural frames.

CONSTRUCTION JOINTS
Surface of construction joints shall be cleaned & lattice removed, immediately before new
concrete is placed, all construction joints shall be wetted & standing water is removed. Construction
joints in floor shall be located w/ in the middle third of spans of slabs, beams & girders, joints in
girders shall be offset a min, distance of two times the width of intersecting beams.

CONSTRUCTION FORMS
Forms shall result in a final structure that conforms to shapes, lines & dimensions of the members
as required by the design, drawings and specs, form shall be substantial and sufficiently tight to
prevent leakage of mortar and shall be properly braced or tied together to maintain position and shape.
No construction load shall be supported on, nor is any shoring removed from any part of structure
under construction except when that portion of structure in combination w/ remaining forming &
shoring system has sufficient strength to support safely its weight & load placed thereon. Forms shall
be removed in such manner as not to impair safety & serviceability of the structure. All concrete to be
exposed by form removal shall sufficient strength not to damage thereby.

CONDUITS & PIPES EMBEDED IN CONCRETE

Conduit pipes and sleeves of any materials are not harmful to create & w/ in limitations of NSCP
sec. 5.6.3 shall be permitted to be embedded in concrete w/ approval of the Engineer, provided they
are not considered to be replaced structurally the displaced concrete.

PREPARATION OF EQUIPMENT & PLACE OF DEPOSIT

Preparation before concrete placement shall include the following:
a. All equipment for mixing and Transporting concrete shall be clean,
b. All debris shall be removed from spaces to be occupied by concrete,
c. Forms shall be properly coated
d. Masonry filler units that will be in contact w/ concrete shall be well drenched
e. Reinforcement shall be thoroughly clean of deleterious coating
f. Water shall be removed from place of deposit before concrete is placed unless a termite is to be
used
g. All laitance & other unsound materials shall be removed before additional concrete is placed
against hardened concrete.

MIXING
All concrete shall be mixed until there is a uniform distribution of materials & shall be discharged
completely before mixer is recharged. Mixing shall be continued for at least 1 ½ minutes after all the
materials are in the drum, unless a shorter time has shown to be satisfactory.

DEPOSITING
a. Concrete shall be deposited as nearly practical in its final position to avoid segregation due to
handling or flowing.
b. Concrete that has partially hardened or been contaminated by foreign materials shall not be
deposited into structure.
c. Retempered concrete or concrete that has been mixed after the initial set shall be used unless
approved by the Engineer.
d. Concrete shall be carried on at such a rate that concrete is always plastic & flows readily into
space b/w reinforcements.
e. After concrete is started it shall be carried on as a continuous operation until the placing of a
panel or section, as defined by its boundaries or predetermined joints, is completed.
f. All concrete shall be thoroughly consolidated by suitable means during placement & thoroughly
worked around reinforcement & embedded fixtures & into corners of forms.

STRUCTURAL STEEL

SCOPE
This work shall consist of the joining of the structural steel w/ weld of the type, dimension &
design shown on the plan & in accordance w/ the specification.

MATERIALS
Steel base metal shall conform to AASHTOM 183; all ALR welding electrodes shall conform to
the requirements of AWS specification.

WELDING
Shall be performed by the metal ARC process, using the electrodes specified on the plan &
drawings with either direct or alternating current. Surface to be weld shall be smooth, uniform & free
form loose scale, slag rust, grease, tears, & other physical defects to the manufacturing standard,
which adversely affect the quality of weld.

WELDERS
All welding shall be done by the approved competent, experienced and fully qualified welders
under the direct supervision of the Engineer.

PREPARATION OF MATERIALS FOR WELDING

Structural steel which is to be weld shall preferably not to be painted until all welding is complete
unless otherwise steel brushed. Dimensional tolerance, straightness & flatness of the structural shapes
and plates shall be within the limits prescribed by the Engineer, manual gas cutting shall be permitted
only where machine gas cutting is not practicable and with the approval of the Engineer.
