Assignment#02
Assignment Guidelines:
• Assignments must be submitted by 11:59 PM on the submission due date noted in red above.
Assignments to be submitted through UM Learn.
• Late submission of assignments will be accepted up to three (3) days (including weekends and
holidays) following the due date. Each late day after the due date will result in 20% reduction
of the mark for each individual assignment. Assignments submitted after three (3) days will
have no credit.
• Assignments must be done independently (must be your own work). Assignments must be
neatly handwritten on engineering paper (grid paper), notebook paper or on a tablet by a stylus.
They cannot be typed using Microsoft Word or a similar computer application. Please use a
pen /pencil, an eraser to correct errors, and a straight edge to draw straight lines. Marks may
be deducted for poor presentation.
• All steps must be included. Intermediate and final answers to be highlighted.

3D Force System
Question 1
The cable attached to the tractor at B exerts a force of 350 lb on the framework. Express this force
as a Cartesian vector.

Determine the magnitude of the projected component of the force F = 300 N acting along line
OA.

Question 3
A radio tower is supported by three cables. The height of the tower is 70m. If the tension in each
cable is 2kN, determine the resultant force exerted on the tower.
