Introduction to Keyboard and Mouse

Objective: By the end of the lesson, learners will understand the basic
functions of a keyboard and mouse and be able to use them to interact
with a computer.

1. Introduction to the Keyboard

 Objective: Understand the basic layout and functions of the


keyboard.

Steps:

 Start with the Layout:


o Explain the different sections: letter keys, number keys,
function keys, special keys (e.g., Enter, Shift, Ctrl, Alt).
o Show the position of commonly used keys (spacebar,
backspace, delete, etc.).
 Explain Typing Basics:
o Hand placement (home row: ASDF for left hand, JKL; for the
right hand).
o Practice typing a few simple sentences.
 Hands-on Activity:
o Let students practice typing by opening a basic text editor like
Notepad.
o Ask them to type a short sentence like: "The quick brown fox
jumps over the lazy dog."

2. Introduction to the Mouse

 Objective: Learn how to hold, move, and use the mouse for
navigation.

Steps:

 Show the Different Parts of a Mouse:


o Left button, right button, scroll wheel.
 Demonstrate Basic Mouse Actions:
o Single click (left and right), double-click, dragging, and
scrolling.
 Hands-on Activity:
o Open a program like Paint, and let students practice clicking,
dragging to draw shapes, and scrolling.

o An interactive website where students can practice mouse
skills.

3. Combining Mouse and Keyboard Skills

 Objective: Practice using both the mouse and keyboard together.

Steps:

 Teach students how to select text using the mouse and copy/paste
using keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V).
 Demonstrate how to open and close applications using the mouse,
and then using keyboard shortcuts (Alt + F4 to close, Alt + Tab to
switch).
 Hands-on Activity:
o Ask students to type a sentence, then use the mouse to select
it and copy/paste it into another document.
