Understanding and Impact of Being Filipino

Reflection:
According to the video that I’ve watched; the Dr. Jose Rizal story became an encouraging novel. It’s not the
common stories of a Filipino, but the history of a knowledgeable and skilled Filipino, willing to risk his whole
life for sake of his family and country's liberation. This movie is about the Spaniards Government and Jose
Rizal’s life where in he faced difficulties which molded him as a person he was. Jose Rizal was portrayed by
Cesar Montano as the main character of the movie. The movie recounts about Rizal’s exile in prison. He was
imprisoned by the Spaniards because of he has written two novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo
together with the accusation that he had started a revolution. The highlights of the movie are the courtroom
scene where Rizal makes his defense, and the execution scene at Bagumbayan, there are other scenes more
memorable to me. Rizal was a son, a brother and a friend. He was taught and raised to be a responsible
individual. He was taught a bit of Spanish by his mother and was later on sent to a local school. He was sent to
Europe to study medicine, her mother had a problem with her eyes that’s why he was motivated to do well in
studying abroad. His brother, Paciano, had been his motivator to do better in school because he was also an
eyewitness of the brutality of the Spaniards. My favorite part is the scene of the anatomy class where Rizal sits
in with the Spanish and Filipino male students. When the Spanish Tomasite professor and a tall Spanish pupil
mock the shorter Filipinos in claiming that height is a symbol of Spain's superiority over the Philippines, Rizal
boldly stands up to question why Spain is losing some of her colonies to natives who are even shorter. This
causes the Filipinos in class to burst out laughing.
All in all, the movie is wonderful to watch and does not have any boring moments. The interpretation of Rizal
works is successfully done by the creators of the film. There's a big impact of this movie just like the young
“Pepe” that can be an inspiration to all generation today that values family and education. By the young age he
became very smart with his charm on. He studies well and obeyed his family for his future. The love of Jose
Rizal of our country shows patriotism and nationalism. That’s why as time passed by while the generation
continuously changes the life and work of Jose Rizal will forever remain in the Filipinos hearts. Not only here
in the Philippines but also all over the world. Although many discriminations and sacrifices that he experienced
still fight for our country. And many Filipinos suffer this situation from the abuse by them physical, emotional,
mental and spiritual experiences that they should not experience. I realized who Rizal truly was. Dr. Jose Rizal
teaches me the importance of those aspects that are essential for the progress of his life, through my
perspectives.
The understanding of this movie was heart-warming, and I was inspired by the details or facts that I saw in the
film. I will definitely recommend this movie because a lot of issues we’re discussed during the regime of
Spaniards in the Philippines, not only issues but details about the things that we can surely knew about Rizal’s
life. Where in a lot of people will be educated why he consider as our Philippine Hero and also about the
happenings during that time. Also, it very important for us to know what really is patriotism and nationalism is.
Because Jose Rizal showed that until his death in Bagumbayan.Cesar Montana had a great work in portraying
Jose Rizal because he has a charm and also has a great acting skills that enchant me to continue watching the
movie.
