NU-EP1 Connection Guide
When assigning IP addresses to each of your devices, use the subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 and the
Default Gateway that you determine in the step shown below.
The subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 will require the first 3 parts of your IP addresses be the same for each of the
devices you are connecting. (Ex. 192.168.0.10, 192.168.0.11 & 192.168.0.15)
Before assigning static IP addresses, check your IP address by connecting to your network and
opening the windows command prompt (cmd in the start menu), then type ipconfig.
I. Assign a Static IP to the PC you intend to use by following the steps below while still connected
to your network.
a. Open the Network and Sharing center in your computer’s control panel.

c. Click Properties
d. Under Properties Find “internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and select it, then click properties.

e. Select “Use the following IP address” and enter in the desired IP address and a subnet mask of
255.255.255.0. Enter in your Default gateway. Click OK.
II. Assign a Static IP to the NU-EP1, using the IP Setting Tool and directly connecting to the NU (The
NU must be powered externally using AWG12 – AWG24 conductor wires, see manual for details.)
a. Begin by opening the IP setting tool while connected to the NU.
b. The NU-EP1’s MAC address should then be displayed. Click Setup IP address.
*If not found, press reset switch on the NU-EP1 for 3 seconds or more, while it is powered on.

c. Type in the IP address you would like to assign to the NU-EP1 and hit OK. Make note of what
IP addresses have been assigned to what devices.

2. Create an Ethernet Module in the PLC software (RSLogix 5000 in this example)
a. On the left tab, Under ‘IO Configuration” Select the PLC and the subsequent Ethernet port.
b. Right click and select New Module.

*Because most of the Data comes in as either an 8 bit or 16 bit integer, we recommend using INT.
It is important the naming of the Device here matches the naming used in the tag files that Keyence
can provide, or that you can create yourself.
e. Select the Requested Packet Interval you desire for cyclic communication. The default value is 10 RPI.

a. On the top of the software interface select the icon highlighted in red, or click Communications -
> Who Active.
b. A list like the one below will be displayed. Find your PLC. Click the small ‘+’ box to expand, click
‘Backplane’, then select the Ethernet IP processor and click Go Online.
c. If the configuration does not match what is already uploaded to the controller, a message like
the one above will be displayed. Simply hit download to establish communication with the PLC.

a. Navigate to the “Tags and Logic Comments…” dropdown. The PLC must be offline to import the
tags.
b. Locate and select the tag file and click import. (The tag file should be in a .csv format)

5. Go Online
Click the dropdown box pictured and select “Go Online”
After double clicking “Controller Tags” on the Organizer tab on the left the below should be displayed:
Keyence does not support the programming necessary to perform message communication. You can
refer to the user’s manual page 3-21 to 3-38 for information regarding message communication. And
page 5-10 to 5-12 for an example procedure for establishing a messaging communication connection.
