Instructions: Read the following questions carefully.

Write the solution in a long

clean paper bond. Highlight your final answers.

1. What is the value of the resistor with the color-coded Green-Blue-Red-Gold?

2. What is the resistivity constant (in x 10¯⁸ ohm-m) of a material with the diameter
of 0.70mm and with the length of 30m if the resistance is 3ohm?
3. A copper wire is drawn such that its resistance is doubled but the volume remains
the same, what is the new resistance of the wire?
4. The resistance of the copper field winding of a dc machine at 20°C is 0.2ohm.
After operating for sometime the resistance is found to be 0.23ohm. Find the
operating temperature.
5. A coil of wire having a resistance of 3.75 ohm and a carrying current of 0.3 A is in
parallel with an unknown resistance through which there a current of 1.5 A.
Determine the total equivalent resistance.
6. A 3ohm and a 1.5 ohm resistor are wired in parallel and the combination is wire
in series to a 4ohm resistor and a 10-V emf device. What is the current in the 3 ohm
resistor?
7. The terminal voltage of a battery is 11.8V when delivering 20 W of power to an
external load Resistor R. If the battery has an emf of 15V, find the internal
resistance of the battery. Use battery equation.
8. You have a DC circuit with three resistors connected in series. The resistors have
the following values: R1=5Ω, R2=10Ω, and R3=15Ω. The circuit is powered by a 30V
DC power supply. Determine the voltage drop across each resistor
9. A Barangay power station supplies 60 kW to a load over 2,500 ft, 100 mm, two-
conductors copper 2 feeder, the resistance of which is 0.078 ohm per 1000 ft. The
bus bar voltage is maintained constant at 600 V. Determine the load current.
10. A resistive coil draws 2 A at 110 V after operating for a long time. If the
temperature rise is 55 C above the ambient temperature of 20 0C, calculate the
external resistance which must be initially connected in 0 series with the coil to limit
the current to 2 A. The temperature coefficient of the material of the coil is 0.0043
per 0C at 2 0C.
11. A copper wire of unknown length has a resistance of 0.8 ohm. By successive
passes through drawing dies, the length of the wire is increased by 2 ½ times the
original value. Assuming that the resistivity remains unchanged during the drawing
process, determine the new values of resistance.
12. A kilometer of wire having a diameter of 10.7 mm and a resistance of 0.031
ohm is drawn down so that its diameter is 5.0 mm. What does its resistance
become? When two resistors A and B are connected in series, the total resistance is
35 ohms. When connected in parallel, the total resistance is 7.14 ohms. What is the
ratio of the resistance Ra to resistance Rb. Assume Ra < Rb.
13. The resistance of 120 meters, 2.2 mm diameter wire is 12 ohms. What is its
conductivity of the wire in siemens per meter? If a resistor rated at 5 watts and 6
volts are connected across a battery with an open circuit voltage of 6 volts. What is
the internal resistance of the battery if the resulting current is 0.8 A?
14. You have a combination circuit with three resistors. R1=4Ω andR2=8Ω are
connected in parallel, and this parallel combination is in series with R3=2 Ω. The
circuit is powered by a 20V DC power supply. Calculate the current flowing through
the circuit.
15. Find the value of R in the given circuit.
