Questions and Answer

Thinking to learning thoroughly…
Discuss your answers on the following questions: (41pts)
1. From what you have processed from the lecture on this module, write 5 phrases that
you can associate to “Learner Centered Psychological Principles”. ( 3pts.)

Answer:

1. learning processes
2. learner centered
3. affected by external environment
4. primarily internal
5. applied to all learners

2. What particular principles are in support to the Cognitive and Metacognitive Factors
in learning? ( 3pts.)

Answer:

The particular principles that support the cognitive and metacognitive factors of
the learning process are goals of the learning process, construction of knowledge,
strategic thinking, thinking about thinking and context of learning.

3. How does successful learners contribute to their own learning? ( 3pts.)

Answer:

Successful learners must be active, meaning if there’s an interaction between

learner and teacher where they exchange knowledge it can lead to their own learning.
Another one is that learners should be goal-directed because once they know their
objective before every lesson, they will focus on learning outcomes that will help them to
clarify, organize, and prioritize their own learning. Through Experience learners also
contribute to their own learning.

4. How does successful learners create knowledge? ( 3pts.)

Answer:

Successful learners create knowledge by getting new information in many ways.

One is through experience over time with support and instructional guidance of
teachers. Students learn also by connecting new knowledge with knowledge and
concepts that they already know, thereby constructing new meanings or knowledge.
5. What is a personally-relevant goal? How can educators assist students become goal-
directed? ( 3pts.)

Answer:

Personally-relevant goals are the needs to be achieved so that learning can be

carried out. In relation to the module, personally-relevant goals help in short term goal
learning for the purpose of filling gaps, resolving inconsistencies and deepening their
understanding of the subject matter so that they can reach a longer-term goal.

Educators can assist students in becoming goal-directed learners by being clear

about learning objectives, giving feedback, offering rewards and celebrating their
achievements from small to big.
6. When can we say that the learner is a strategic thinker? ( 3pts.)

Answer:

We can say that the learner is a strategic thinker if the learner can create and
use a repertoire of thinking and reasoning strategies to achieve complex learning goals.
He/she is also a strategic thinker if they use a variety of strategies in their approach to
learning, reasoning, problem solving and concept learning strategies to help them reach
learning and performance goals.

7. What other term is used that refers to higher order strategies? ( 3pts.)

Answer: Metacognitive can be used to refer to higher order strategies.

8. What learning competence do successful learners demonstrate? ( 3pts.)

Answer: Critical thinker, problem solver, innovative and creative.

9. In the context of learning how does the following factors affect learning? (5pts)

Answer:

a. Environment

Environment plays a big part in learning from teachers, parents, and the
classroom. Teacher is a major part of the learners and learning environment which
means the greater the teacher is, the greater the student will be. Parents' behavior and
educational support for their children could cultivate children's learning habits and affect
academic performance. The classroom environment, particularly the degree to which it
is nurturing or not, can also have significant impacts on student learning.
b. Culture

Cultural or group also influences learners, such as motivation, orientation toward

learning and ways of thinking. For example our parents are the first persons to motivate
and orient us the ways we think in learning. Parents are a part of the learner culture.

c. Technology

Technology likewise affects the learners and their learning ability. When a learner
uses modern technologies like cellphones and computers in a positive way more likely it
will be to their advantage because technology provides learners with easy-to-access
information, accelerated learning materials, and fun opportunities to practice what they
learn.

d. Instructional practices

Instructional practices also affect learning; it must be appropriate for the learner's level
of prior knowledge, cognitive abilities and their learning and thinking strategies. To avoid
misunderstanding of the lesson.

10. How do you understand “overemphasis in learning”? Is it an indication of effective

learning? Why? ( 3pts.)

Answer:

From the module overemphasis in learning on one type of developmental

readiness – such as reading readiness – may preclude learners from demonstrating that
they are more capable in other areas of performance. Like in life too much of anything is
bad.
11. As a teacher will you consider differential development in planning for instruction?
How? ( 3pts.)

Answer:

Yes, I will consider differential development in planning because each learner

has his own unique way of learning. For instruction in deferential development, I will use
different material appropriate to their developmental level and is presented in an
enjoyable and interesting way.
12. As an educator what is your role in converting students’ diversity as a key factor to
optimum level of learning? ( 3pts.)

Answer:

As an educator my role is to have various approaches because students have

diversified viewpoints far different from their own. Students’ diversity can be a good
factor that gives them the opportunity to think critically about their own beliefs and
examine their own knowledge in fresh ways that leads to new learning.

13. When can we say that the standard for learning is appropriately high and
challenging? ( 3pts.)

Answer:

We can say that the standard for learning is appropriately high and challenging
by conducting assessment at every end of a lesson. Assessments provide important
information to both the learner and teacher at all stages of the learning process. When
most of the learners in an assessment did not fail or all did not pass with perfect scores,
I think it can also be considered as an appropriately high and challenging standard for
learning if the learners feel challenged or the critical thinking is triggered to work
towards appropriately high goals.

Activity 2
A. 5-minute non-stop writing
• Describe what you can do to advocate the use of the 14
Learning-Centered Psychological Principles.
Here are my own ways to advocate the use of the 14 learning –
centered psychological principles.
Since the nature of the learning process is about how learners
learn through their own. I will not encourage spoon-feeding to the
students; instead, as a teacher I will let them create their own learning
through having an interactive participation in recitation and activities
where their critical thinking is being practiced that can lead to their
own creation of knowledge.
Before every class starts, I will have little discussion about our
previous topic and then set all the goals or the outcome that we need
to achieve to help the student focus or to be goal-directed at the things
required to achieve from our lesson today towards attaining our short-
term goal to long term goals. In other words, we will help them by
instruction and guidance in accordance with their level of
understanding, aspiration, and interest because every student is
different from one another.
Lastly, I’m going to assess the students from time to time
through questions like if they understand what I’m teaching or if they
have a question in mind and also at the end of the lesson through
different methods. Teachers must address every query of the
students. I’ll also establish a good environment where fair treatment of
students is implemented. Mastery of a subject is a must because we
should remember a good teacher makes a good student while a great
teacher makes a poor student inspired and motivated that leads to
greatness.
