RPMS SY 2022-2023
TEACHER REFLECTION FORM
(TRF)
TEACHER I-III

TEACHER: DIANE CAROL R. MAGNO DATE SUBMITTED: October 10,2022

RATER: ALEXANDER C. VIADO SUBJECT & GRADE LEVEL: MATHEMATICS 9

DIRECTIONS: Reflect on your attainment of the RPMS objective by answering the

questions/prompts provided. Use any local or official language that you are comfortable with.

OBJECTIVE 13
Applied a personal philosophy of teaching that is learner centered.

REFLECTION JOURNAL
A learner-centered teaching philosophy is an approach to education that places the
learner at the center of the learning process. It recognizes that each learner is unique and has
their own needs, interests, and abilities. The primary goal of a learner-centered approach is to
facilitate the growth and development of learners by actively engaging them in the learning
process and tailoring instruction to their individual needs. It also places the learner at the
forefront of the educational experience, empowering them to take ownership of their learning
and become active, self-directed learners.

From the beginning, my goal was to create a dynamic and inclusive learning
environment where students actively participate in the teaching-learning process, taking
ownership of their education. I firmly believe that when students feel invested in their
learning, they not only grasp concepts better but also develop essential skills that extend
beyond the classroom.

In the initial quarter, I focused on building a strong foundation for a learner-centered

classroom. During our introductory lesson, I encouraged students to share their personal
interests and learning preferences. Based on their input, I designed activities that catered to
their diverse needs.

QUARTER 1: PERENNIALISM

Specific Activity: "Parabola Walk"

Interdisciplinary Link: Arts

Instructions: Identify shapes in nature that resemble a parabolic curve and be able to
capture it using cellphone cameras. Make sure to capture a parabola with an upward and
downward curve.

Reflection: In this activity, I let them roam around the school premises to find things that
looks like a parabola. It can be a plant, a branch of a tree, a folded steel or a natural beautiful
leaf formed like a parabola. After, I let them identify what kind of parabola is that, and tried to
plot in in a graph to find its points, and eventually solving for its quadratic equation.

questions/prompts provided. Use any local or official language that you are comfortable with.

OBJECTIVE 13
Applied a personal philosophy of teaching that is learner centered.

QUARTER 2: CONSTRUCTIVISM

As we progressed into the second quarter, I integrated more group-based activities and
project-based learning into the curriculum. I wanted students to experience the value of
collaboration and peer learning. Most of the time, group works are done as a contest or game
and whoever wins gets prizes, and rewards.

Specific Activity: "Fill Me in Triads"

Instructions: In groups of three, they will answer different kinds of zero, integral, and
negative exponential and radical equations. They must answer as a team, and solve each
equation fast and accurate. The team that scores the most will win the game.

Reflection: During group works, students tend to be at ease and just rely the workload to
their classmates. But, during group works, I always make sure that I reiterate and give
emphasis to the participation of all members, and always include it in the rubrics of
activities. Because of this, students practice cooperation and teamwork to achieve their
goals, and at the same time learn with their peers actively.

DIRECTIONS: Reflect on your attainment of the RPMS objective by answering the

questions/prompts provided. Use any local or official language that you are comfortable with.

OBJECTIVE 13
Applied a personal philosophy of teaching that is learner centered.

QUARTER 3: CONNECTIVISM

By the third quarter, I observed that students were taking more initiative in their
learning. They actively sought additional resources to deepen their understanding of topics
that interested them. To foster this autonomy, I introduced the concept of "passion
projects." Each student had the opportunity to explore a mathematics-related topic of their
choice, and I mentored them throughout the process.

Specific Activity: "Quad Toy”

Interdisciplinary Link: Science and Arts

Instruction: Create a working model of a quadrilateral toy that will benefit less fortunate kids.
Make sure to use recyclable materials in doing the output. Also, document the process in
creating the toy and provide a video presentation/report of your output.

Reflection: In this activity, each learner is asked to create his or her own version of a toy
made of quadrilaterals. He/ She must integrate in the output the principles studied for the
whole quarter. The toy must also be enjoyed by five-year old children. They may choose to
create educational toys, robots, vehicle toys, as long as it is aligned to the rubrics of the
performance task. Simultaneous to creating the output, they will also create a video
documentation of the process of creating such outputs.

provided. Use any local or official language that you are comfortable with.

OBJECTIVE 13
Applied a personal philosophy of teaching that is learner centered.

QUARTER 4: ESSENTIALISM

As we reached the final quarter, I wanted to ensure that my students could apply
their knowledge to real-life situations. Here the topics include Trigonometry, Law of Sines
and Cosines, and Oblique Triangles. During this quarter, the students were able to
appreciate the application of trigonometry in real-life.

Specific Activity: Trigonome-TREE

Instructions: Create your own DIY Clinometer. After, use the clinometer in finding the angle
of elevation of the flag pole. Using the data gathered, you will now able to find the height of
the flag pole without actually measuring its height. They also have the opportunity to find the
height of the tall trees around the school using the DIY Clinometer, and the knowledge in
finding the unknown measurements using the six trigonometric ratios by solving it.

Reflection: In this activity, students went out of the classroom to experience how to use their
DIY Clinometer. They tried finding the angle of depression and calculated the height of the
school flag pole without actually measuring its height. Also, they tried to compute hpw tall
were the trees surrounding the school premises using their knowledge on angles of elevation
and depression, and with the use of the DIY Clinometer.

Final Reflection

As the academic year comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on the journey we embarked
upon together, embracing a learner-centered teaching philosophy. It has been an enriching
and fulfilling experience witnessing the growth and engagement of my students throughout
the four quarters.

As I look back on the four quarters, I am proud to witness the growth and enthusiasm of my
students. By applying a learner-centered teaching philosophy, I saw their confidence in
mathematics blossom, and their willingness to take risks and tackle challenges expanded.
Through providing choices, fostering collaboration, encouraging passion projects, and
connecting mathematics to real-life, I have witnessed a shift in their attitudes toward
learning.
