Was/Were

Was

Used with first and third person singular subjects, such as "I", "he", "she", and "it". For
example, "I was taking a walk around the neighborhood".

Were

Used with second person singular and all plural subjects, such as "you", "we", and "they". For
example, "You were late three days in a row".

Regular Verbs

For regular verbs, you usually add “-ed” to the verb to form the past tense.

Irregular Verbs

Trip To The Beach

Last weekend, Sarah and her family went to the beach. They drove there in the morning and
arrived at 10 o'clock. The weather was sunny, and the ocean looked beautiful. Sarah brought
her new swimsuit and wore it right away.

Sarah’s little brother, Tim, played in the sand with his toys. He built a big sandcastle while
their parents sat under an umbrella. They relaxed and read their books. Everyone was happy
and had a great time.

At noon, they all ate lunch. They brought sandwiches, fruit, and juice. After eating, Sarah
and Tim swam in the ocean. The water was cool and refreshing. They saw some small fish
swimming near them.

In the afternoon, they packed their things and left the beach. Sarah felt tired but very
happy. It was a wonderful day at the beach. When they got home, Sarah took a long nap.
