LEGO SPIKE PRIME

INTRODUCTION TO
LEGO SPIKE PRIME
EDUCATION
What is LEGO?

The LEGO is derived from the first two

letters of the Danish words LEG GODT
meaning " PLAY WELL ".
The LEGO Robotics

❑ Robotics is a combines science,

engineering and technology to design,
construct, operate and use machines
programmed to replicate, substitute or
assists humans in completing task.
❑ Robots are, in fact defined as man-made
mechanical devices that can move by
themselves, whose motion must be
modelled, planned, sensed, actuated and
controlled and whose motion behaviour
can be influenced by “programming”.
The LEGO Robotics

❑ 1988 Collaboration between The LEGO

group and Massachusetts Institute of
Technology (MIT) begins on development
of an “intelligent brick” that will bring
LEGO creations to life via computer
programming.
The LEGO Robotics

❑ In 2018, Lego Education unveiled SPIKE

Prime.
❑ SPIKE Prime is the newest hands-
on STEAM (Science, Technology,
Engineering, Arts, Math) product,
unveiled by Lego Education. It brings
together Lego bricks and a
programmable Hub with sensors and
motors. An app works with the hub to
allow children to build programs,
containing lessons that have been
designed to fit within the classroom.

The 1st Generation Mindstorms:
RCX
❑ 1986 the first-computer controlled
LEGO products are released.
❑ The RCX is programmed by
uploading a program using a
dedicated infrared interface.
❑ Programs may take use of three
sensor input ports and three 9 V
output ports.

❑ Lego Mindstorms NXT was a
programmable robotics kit
released by Lego in July 2006,
replacing the first-generation
LEGO Mindstorms kit.
❑ NXT Educational Version which is
made for school use
❑ Lego Mindstorms NXT 2.0 was

The 3rd Generation Mindstorms: EV3

❑ LEGO Mindstorm EV3 is the third

generation robotics kit in LEGO’s
Mindstorm line. It is the successor to
the second generation LEGO
Mindstorm NXT 2.0 kit.

❑ The “EV” designation refers to the

‘evolution’ of the Mindstorms product
line. “3” refers to the fact that it is the
third generation of computer modules.
