E. Job Set-up:
NOTE
Ambient temperature is a very important factor in this test. If ambient temperature changes
during the test, it will be necessary to do the test again. You must park the helicopter in the work
area approximately 1 - 2 hours before you measure its internal temperature. After this time, the
internal and external temperatures will be the same.
E.1. Park the helicopter in an area where there is no wind, that has constant temperature and is
away from sunlight.
E.2. If you will do the test in a Hangar, close the hangar gates to prevent pressure changes due to
wind.
E.3. Open the access doors of the LH and RH engine cowlings and lock them in the open
position.
E.4. Make sure that the shut-off valve of the long range fuel tank is closed.
Effectivity : ALL
E.5. Make sure that the LH and RH fuel shut-off valves are open.

E.6. Defuel the helicopter AMM 12-10-00,3-2.
E.8. Disconnect the fuel supply lines from the engine AMM 71-00-00,4-1.
E.9. Disconnect the fuel return line from the engine AMM 71-00-00,4-1.

E.11. Put a thermometer in the cabin of the helicopter and record the temperature indication when
it becomes stable. Keep the thermometer in the helicopter.
F. Procedure:
□ F.1. In one of the engine compartments, connect the compressed dry air or compressed
nitrogen source to the fuel supply line.
□ F.2. Set the pressure of the compressed dry air or compressed nitrogen source to a value
between 0.034 bar and 0.04 bar (0.5 psi to 0.6 psi), but do not supply pressure yet.
□ F.3. In the other engine compartment, connect the transparent hose (1, Figure 1: Leakage Test -
Fuel System) of the U-tube manometer (2) to the other fuel supply line.
CAUTION
SUPPLY DRY AIR / NITROGEN PRESSURE TO THE FUEL SYSTEM SLOWLY. YOU CAN CAUSE
DAMAGE TO THE EXPANSION BOX AND / OR TO THE VENT TUBES IF YOU INCREASE THE
PRESSURE TOO QUICKLY.
CAUTION
MAKE SURE THAT THE PRESSURE IN THE FUEL SYSTEM DURING THE TEST IS NOT MORE THAN
0.041 BAR (0.6 PSI). HIGHER PRESSURE VALUES WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EXPANSION
BOX, TO THE AIRFRAME STRUCTURE AND / OR TO THE VENT TUBES.
□ F.4. With the compressed dry air or compressed nitrogen source, supply a pressure between
0.034 bar and 0.04 bar (0.5 psi to 0.6 psi) to the fuel system.
□ F.5. Make sure that you can feel air / nitrogen flow out of the vent outlets on the LH and RH
sides of the helicopter.
□ F.6. Use rubber bungs to tightly close the LH and RH vent outlets.
□ F.7. When the pressure indication of the U-tube manometer (2) is between 340 mm and 410
mm WC (water column), stop the pressure supply and record the measured pressure

value.
□ F.8. Record the temperature currently indicated by the thermometer that is inside the
helicopter.
□ F.9. Approximately 5 minutes after you stop the pressure supply, the pressure indication
becomes stable. When this occurs, record the measured pressure value.
□ F.10. Compare the pressure value that you recorded in step 7 with the pressure value that you
recorded in step 9. The height of the water column must not have decreased more than
NOISREV DETNIRP EHT OT SDNOPSERROC NOITATNEMUCOD ENILNO EHT FI KCEHC ESAELP .ENILNO ELBALIAVA SI ECNEREFER TNEMUCOD EHT
30 mm (1.18 in).
□ F.11. If the height of the water column decreased more than 30 mm (1.18 in), do the
procedures given in step 15.
□ F.12. Compare the current pressure indication with the previous measured pressure value
(step 9). The height of the water column must not have decreased more than 5 mm (0.2
in) after 15 minutes.
□ F.13. Compare the current temperature with the temperature measured in step 8. Do the
leakage test again if the temperatures are different.
□ F.14. If the temperatures are the same and the level of the water column in the U-tube
manometer (2) did not decrease more than 5 mm (0.2 in) after 15 minutes (step 12), that
indicates that there are no leaks in the fuel system. You can then skip step 15 and do the
procedures of the “Close-up”.
□ F.15. If the height of the water column decreased more than 5 mm (0.2 in) after 15 minutes, do
as follows:
□ a. With the compressed dry air or compressed nitrogen source, supply a pressure
between 0.034 bar and 0.04 bar (0.5 psi to 0.6 psi) to the fuel system.
CAUTION
AFTER YOU DO THE TEST, CLEAN THE AREAS WHERE THE LEAK DETECTION SPRAY OR
THE SOLUTION OF SOAP AND WATER WAS APPLIED. THIS WILL HELP PREVENT
CORROSION.
□ b. Apply leak detection spray CM 711 or a solution of soap and water on all the unions
and connections of the fuel return line, fuel supply lines and vent lines.
□ c. Apply leak detection spray CM 711 or a solution of soap and water on the expansion
box, equipment plates, fuel shut-off valves and vent lines.

□ d. Examine the connections, unions, expansion box, equipment plates, fuel shut-off
valves and vent lines for bubbles or other signs of leakage.
CAUTION
DO NOT TIGHTEN TUBE AND HOSE CONNECTIONS OR ATTACHING PARTS TO STOP A
LEAKAGE. YOU MUST LOOSEN AND TIGHTEN THEM AGAIN TO THE CORRECT TORQUE
VALUE (CHECK-TIGHTEN). IF YOU TIGHTEN THEM TOO MUCH, YOU WILL CAUSE DAMAGE
TO THEM.
