Performance Task: Implementing Control in Different Scenarios

Objective: Understand how to apply feedforward, concurrent, and feedback control in real-world
situations.
Instructions:
1. Select Your Scenario:
You will be divided into small groups. Each group will receive one of the following scenarios that
organizations might face:

Scenario 1: Long Wait Times at a Hotel

A popular hotel is fully booked for a weekend music festival. Guests are arriving at the same
time, leading to long wait times at the check-in desk. Some guests are frustrated and
complaining about the delays. The hotel staff needs to find ways to manage the situation and
ensure that guests feel welcomed and satisfied despite the chaos.
Scenario 2: Overwhelmed Travel Agency During Holiday Season
A travel agency experiences a spike in customer inquiries and bookings during the holiday
season. With only a few employees available, they struggle to respond to all customer requests
in a timely manner. Management must figure out how to keep track of employee performance
and ensure that customers receive the assistance they need without overwhelming their staff.
Scenario 3: Flight Cancellations Due to Bad Weather
An airline has to cancel several flights due to a severe snowstorm. Passengers are upset and
need help rebooking their flights or getting refunds. The airline’s customer service team must
quickly implement strategies to handle the influx of calls and emails while keeping passengers
informed and calm during this stressful situation.
Scenario 4: Launching a New Adventure Tour
A tour company is excited to launch a new adventure tour package that includes hiking and
camping in a national park. Before the launch, they need to set clear goals for how many people
they want to book for the first month, monitor how well their marketing efforts are doing, and
gather feedback from early participants to make sure everything goes smoothly.

2. Research and Prepare:

As a group, discuss your assigned scenario and research how you would implement the three
types of control:
- Feed-forward Control: Identify preventive measures you can take to avoid potential issues
before they arise.
- Concurrent Control: Determine how you would monitor ongoing activities in real-time to ensure
that standards are being met during the situation.
- Feedback Control: Decide on methods you would use to evaluate outcomes after the situation
has occurred and how you would gather feedback for future improvements.
3. Create a Presentation:
Prepare a presentation (5-10 minutes) summarizing your findings. Include:
An overview of your scenario.
The specific feedforward, concurrent, and feedback controls you would implement.
Any examples or strategies that support your approach.
