Comprehensive Conditional Sentences Exercise Set

Part 1: Identification
Instructions: Identify the type of conditional used in each sentence (Zero, First, Second,
Third, or Mixed).

Part 2: Sentence Formation


Instructions: Form a conditional sentence using the cues given.

1. Zero Conditional: If water boils at 100°C, it turns into steam.


2. First Conditional: If I win the lottery, I will buy a house.
3. Second Conditional: If you could change one law, what would it be?
4. Third Conditional: If they had listened to my advice, they would not have failed.
5. Mixed Conditional: If he had studied harder, he would be top of his class now.

Part 3: Sentence Correction


Instructions: Correct the errors in the conditional sentences

below. 1. If she would have arrived on time, she would catch the

bus.

Instructions: Use the appropriate conditional to create a response based on the scenario
provided.
1. Scenario: There is a possibility of rain tomorrow during the outdoor
event. Response: If it rains tomorrow, we'll have to move the outdoor
event indoors.

2. Scenario: You’re imagining a scenario where you can speak three more languages
fluently.
Response: If I could speak three more languages fluently, I would travel the world and
connect with people from different cultures.

3. Scenario: You missed an important meeting yesterday because your alarm didn't go
off. Response: If my alarm had gone off yesterday, I wouldn't have missed the important
meeting.

4. Scenario: Your friend is thinking about investing in stocks but is


unsure. Response: If I were you, I would research different investment
strategies and consult with a financial advisor before making any
decisions.

5. Scenario: Technological advancement has eradicated a major


disease. Response: If technological advancement had eradicated a
major disease, it would have saved countless lives and improved the
quality of life for many people.

Part 5: Dialogue Completion


Instructions: Complete the dialogues with the appropriate conditional

sentences. A: If I miss the bus tomorrow morning, I'll have to take a taxi.

B: Don’t worry, if that happens,I can give you a ride.

A: What would you do if you found a wallet on the street?

B: If I found a wallet on the street, I would definitely turn it in to the lost and found.

A: If he had called me, I would have been able to help him

B: Well, he didn’t call because he thought he could handle it himself.


Part 6: Advanced Error Correction
Instructions: Identify and correct the conditional sentences. Some may have more than one

Instructions: Write responses to these scenarios using the appropriate type of conditional
sentence.

Scenario: Your company may implement a new policy that everyone works from home
twice a week.

Response:If the company implements a new policy of working from home twice a week, I'll
have more flexibility to manage my personal life.

Scenario: You are planning a surprise party for a friend, but you suspect they might have
other plans.

Response:If my friend doesn't have any other plans, I'll throw them a surprise party.

Scenario: You heard a rumor that your favorite band will come to your town next

year. Response: If my favorite band comes to town next year, I'll definitely buy tickets

to the concert.

Scenario: Imagine it’s 50 years in the future and climate change has been completely
reversed.

Response: If climate change had been completely reversed 50 years ago, the world would
be a much healthier and more sustainable place.

Scenario: You’re contemplating what would have happened if the internet was never
invented.

Response: If the internet had never been invented, communication and information
sharing would be significantly slower and less accessible.
