1 GENERAL
1.1 Scope
1.1.1 This specification provides the supplementary technical requirements for valves in the
DESCRIPTION shown on the Bill Of Materials of Requisition for ERC REFINERY PROJECT.
1.1.2 If the DESCRIPTION differs from, or is in conflict with, any requirement of this specification, it
shall be resolved in the following order of precedence.
1.2.1 Design, fabrication, testing and inspection of piping materials shall be accomplished in accordance
with Appendix #1 “CODES AND STANDARDS”.
1.3 Abbreviations
Full description for Abbreviaion shown on DESCRIPTION in Bill of Materials shall be refered to
Appendix #2 “ABBREVIATIONS”
1.4 Unit
Unless otherwise specified, Metric, Celsius and Kilogram units shall be applied as the measurement
system. However nominal sizes and pressure rating of piping components shall be in accordance with
inch system whose abbreviations is (NPS) and (Lb) respectively.
2.1.1 All materials shall meet the service condition and other requirements specified in the
“DESCRIPTION shown on the Bill Of Materials”, for individual valve specification.
2.1.2 Unless otherwise specified, heat treatment shall be in accordance with the applicable material
standard.
2.1.3 All material shall be new and the interior and exterior surface shall be free of dirt, sand, debris and
excessive rust.
2.1.4 Hand wheel for valves may be of cast or forged steel, malleable or nodular iron, other cast iron
shall not be used.
2.1.5 Valve standards for design & dimension shall be as follows, unless otherwise specified.

2.1.6 Trim
(1) Basic trim materials and relevant requirements shall conform to each valve standard.
(2) When a hardness differential between the seating surfaces either specified or furnished, for metal
–to-metal seated valves, the seating surface in the valve body shall be of the harder material.
Stelliting/hard surfacing by deposition shall be minimum 1.6mm.
(3) A pin shall not be used in marking a stem-to-gate connection for gate valve, and a stem-to-disc
connection for globe valve.
2.1.7 For forged valves, flanged valves shall have the flanges integral the body. Flanges may be welded
to the body with full penetration groove butt-welding. Socket welding of flanges to the body is not
permitted.
2.1.8 Soft seat quarter turn valves (Ball, Butterfly and Plug) shall be supplied with antistatic device.
2.1.9 Soft seat quarter turn valves (Ball, Butterfly and Plug) shall be “FIRE SAFE DESIGN” in
accordance with API 607, Fourth Edition. The manufacturer shall submit Fire Safe Test
Certificate during quotation.
2.1.10 For all lug and wafer type valve, the manufacturer shall supply "Cap Screw Bolts (Machine
Bolts)”. Cap screw bolt material is same as bonnet bolts.
2.1.11 Where “WET H2S RESISTANT STEEL (CATEGORY 1)” specified in the Valve description,
materials shall conform to the following requirements.
These Ceq values are indicative and may be re-considered if needed regarding the used steel grade.
In that case, new proposed values should be submitted to EPC for approval.
- Thermal Stress Relieving required for all welds (PWHT), even if it is not required by code,
- Thermal Stress Relieving required for cold bend zones producing outer fiber deformation greater
than 5% , even if it is not required by code,
- Hardness of the production welds shall be lower than 200HB. This value uses to be slightly
lower than the one defined for base metal (22HRC or 237HB) in order to anticipate potential non-
homogeneity of certain weld deposits.
- Valve material to ASTM A105, A350 Gr.LF2, A216 Gr.WCB and A352 Gr.LCB shall be
provided that all the specifications given here-above are guarantied and supplemented by
following limitation on impurities level :
2.1.12 Where “HIC RESISTANT STEEL (CATEGORY 2)” specified in the Valve description, in
addition to the general recommendations relative to “WET H2S RESISTENT STEEL
(CATEGORY 1)”, the following requirements shall also be met.
- Valve material to ASTM A105, A350 Gr.LF2, A216 Gr.WCB and A352 Gr.LCB shall be
provided that all the specifications given here-above are guarantied and supplemented by
following limitation on impurities level :
2.1.14 Where specified “W/SELF CLEANING DRILLED GATE” in GATE VALVE DESCRIPTION,
gate(wedge) construction shall be in accordance with Appendix #3 “Detail for Self Cleaning
Drilled Gate”.

2.1.15 Where “WB”(Welded bonnet) or “WC”(Welded Cap) specified in VALVE DESCRIPTION, weld
joint shall be full penetration weld.
2.1.16 All Type 321 or Type 347 stainless steel valves shall be stabilized heat treated condition.
All gate and globe valves shall have back seat on the bonnet.
2.3.1 Asbestos material for bonnet gasket and stem packing shall not be approved and shall not be
proposed nor used as a substitute.
2.3.2 Unless otherwise specified in VALVE DESCRIPTION, the selection of bonnet gaskets are based
on spiral wound gasket with 304SS hoop and flexible graphite filler for carbon & alloy steel
valves and for stainless, Incolloy and hastelloy valves, the hoop material shall be of a material
that has a corrosion resistence at least equal to that of the body material.
2.3.3 Stem packing for gate, globe and needle valves shall conform to the following, unless otherwise
specified.
2.4.1 Unless otherwise specified in the DESCRIPTION, bolt materials shall be as follows;
(1) For carbon steel : ASTM A193, Gr. B7 (Bolt) / A194, Gr. 2H (Nut)
(2) For carbon steel (For Wet H2S & HIC Resistant Steel valve) : ASTM A193, Gr. B7M (Bolt) /
A194, Gr. 2HM (Nut)
(3) For low alloy steel : ASTM A193, Gr. B16 (Bolt) / A194, Gr. 4 (Nut)
(4) For austenitic stainless steel: ASTM A193, Gr. B8 (Bolt) / A194, Gr. 8 (Nut)
(5) For low temp. carbon steel : ASTM A320, Gr. L7 (Bolt) / A194, Gr 4 (Nut)

(6) For low temp. carbon steel (For Wet H2S & HIC Resistant Steel valve) : ASTM A320, Gr. L7M

2.4.2 Unified inch screw threads shall be applied in accordance with ASME B1.1.
2.4.3 All nuts for bonnet and flanged connection shall be in accordance with ANSI B18.2.2 Table (9)

2.5 Operating
2.5.1 Gearing, as furnished by valve manufacturer, shall be provided for large valves requiring great
torque for operation. Valves to be furnished with gearing are generally as follows;
Note : The operating force at the half opening position by the handwheel or lever shall not exceed 35 kgf.
2.6.2 Unless otherwise specified, flange surface finish of gasket contact face shall have 125 in. to 250
in. average roughness conforming to ASME B16.5.

3.1.2 Marking of valves shall be made on valve body, handwheel, nameplate and bolt & nut.
3.1.3 Marking on valve body shall be made on body or bonnet by casting-out, forging out or punching.
Punching depth shall not exceed 1 mm.
3.1.4 Nameplates that are generally attached on the upper side of handwheels, shall be marked with
etching and/or punching.

3.3 Tagging
3.3.1 Tags shall normally be attached to the bonnet arm. Tag on valves that do not have a bonnet may
be attached to the operator or other appropriate location except for bolt holes of end flanges.
3.3.2 Each tag shall be clearly lettered with black paint, punching or vibrating pen.
3.3.3 Where the DESCRIPTION specifies a specific requirement (e.g. WET H2S, HIC, HYDROGEN,
12 AROMATICS and etc), the supplier shall attach an additional tag spelling out this requirement.
3.3.4 The minimum dimensions for tags and wire shall conform to the following;
(4) Wire diameter : Min. 8 twists of stainless steel wire with 1.2mm diameter
3.3.5 All valves shall be supplied with a stainless steel tag stamped with its ‘Tag/Code No.’ securely
attached to each valve with multi-stand non-corrodible wire.

For all check valves except dual plate check valves, vendor shall supply bonnet gasket for spare parts per
each valve.
6 ENGINEERING DATA
6.1 All engineering data, including dimensional data, when the published catalog is not available, shall be
furnished in accordance with “Vendor Print Requirements” attached in requisition by the supplier with
quotation.
6.2 Total valve weight shall be furnished for individual valves with quotation.
This information shall also be shown on the dimensional drawing submitted for PURCHASER’s
approval after award of any purchase order.
6.3 The maximum allowable hydrostatic shell and seat test pressure shall also be shown on the vendor print
drawings.
6.4 The supplier shall submit the manufacturer’s Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) and Procedure
Qualification Records (PQR), for Purchaser’s approval, if valves are manufactured with pressure
retaining welds (include seal welds). WPS and PQR shall be in accordance with 327 of ASME B31.3.
6.5 The supplier shall furnish nondestructive examination (NDE) procedures for all required NDE that is
supplementary to the specification referenced for manufacture (e.g. ASTM A216). NDE results shall be

6.6 Supplier shall furnish detail of material of construction including their material, grand packing etc.
6.7 Supplier shall specify both “ORIGIN OF MANUFACTURER” and “COUNTRY OF ORIGIN” in
quotation.
7.1 Inspection and tests may be reviewed and/or witnessed by Purchaser or its authorized agent at the
supplier's facility in accordance with 7T04-QA-00-PC-003, Shop Inspection and Test Plan.
7.2 Where required, Positive material identification (PMI) shall be in accordance with 7T04-QA-00-PC-004,
PMI Procedure.
8 OTHERS
8.1 Any substitutions of specified rating or material shall not be permitted without PURCHASER’s written
approval.
8.2 All end connections, including butt-welding ends, shall be protected by plastic cap or equivalent, securely
attached to the valve ends, from dirty and other foreign matter. Metal covers shall not be permitted.
8.3 Machined, threaded, and unlined interior surfaces of carbon steel, ferritic steel, and alloy steel valves
shall be coated with an easily removable rust preventive. The valve stem (or shaft) is not required to be
coated if stem packing contains a sacrificial metal corrosion inhibitor.
8.4 The supplier shall furnish manufacturer’s Mill Test Reports, including PURCHASER’s Purchase Order
Number and Item Code Number. The test reports shall be traceable to each valve through legible paint
stenciled heat numbers or equivalent.
8.5 Austenitic stainless steel valves shall be protected from exposure to salt water or salt spray during
shipment, cleaning, fabrication, testing and/or storage. If protective coatings are used they shall not
contain or other substances that may be detrimental to stainless steel.
