Introduction

Evaluating a text or performance has always been subjective in its very sense.
Subjectivity in giving judgment has always been an issue in terms of fairness. In
addressing this concern, criteria have been helpful tools in establishing objectivity in
evaluating a text or performance. Simply, objectivity allows the evaluator to develop
sound and fair judgment. You are expected to establish a sense of objectivity in
evaluating a picture, text and/or performance using a set of criteria.

What is evaluating and judging?

Judgement is born from a need, sometimes unconsciously, to be right, to be

and to feel right. An observation or evaluation comes from a specific position, that is,
when we talk and think from a vantage point that is above our personal
circumstances, which is independent of the parties involved.
What is the purpose of evaluation is to make judgement?

Evaluation is a process that critically examines a program. It involves collecting and

analyzing information about a program's activities, characteristics, and outcomes. Its
purpose is to make judgments about a program, to improve its effectiveness, and/or
to inform programming decisions (Patton, 1987).

What is the difference between judgement and opinion?

A judgment is essentially a reasoned opinion. Opinion is a broad category

that includes both reasoned arguments and feelings that aren't based on facts or
knowledge (such as preferences). Facts, inferences, judgments, and opinions all
have a place in academic argument.
