Task
• The primary task of the drainage system is to remove occurring condensate - particularly during transient operation
phases like start-up and shutdown.
• So the turbine drainage system prevents the following operational disturbances or damages of the turbo-set:
- One-sided cooling and resulting deformity of the turbine housing by condensate assemblages in the bottom of
housings.
- Condensation shocks in the piping (water-hammer).
- Evaporation by sudden pressure dispensations which could end in not allowed rotation speed up of the turbine.
- Condensate assemblage in the seal steam system which leads to disturbances in the seal steam control.
• In addition, some drainages of the main steam- and reheat valve- combinations have functions during warm-up
process (warm-up drains MAL11.., ..).
Function
• All more important drain valves are equipped with actuators.
Pneumatic (standard) or electric (option) actuators are used.
• The condensate is passed through drainage pipes with slop into the condenser MAG.
Several drains are scrambled (pressure staggered) to collective lances which end into condenser stand pipes.
The high pressure drains are not allowed to obstruct the free out-flow of drains with lower pressure level
• To protect the drain valve seats dirt traps (blind pipe section) are provided, directly upstream the drain valves
• The used drain valves have single or three/multi stages.
They are equipped with spring washer at the stem to keep the valve closed during cooling down.
• All drains must be opened during start-up and after shutdown.
Draining should be implemented only as long as condensate accumulates. This prevents steam losses.
• All automatic drain controls are activated by the SLC turbine drains (MAL10EE001).
• For the drain valves are individual controls provided. The individual open and close commands are derived from:
ST speed, ST temperature, generator electric load, steam superheating, ST stop valve position, ...
• Option: In case of not enough geodetic difference an extra deep arranged drain station with tank and pumps must be
provided for some very deep arranged drains.
