Classical Mathematics: During the Renaissance and the classical era of mathematics,
concepts related to convexity began to be formalized. Mathematicians such as Euclid
and later Descartes explored properties of geometric figures.
Formal Development: In the 19th century, mathematicians such as Cauchy and Jensen formalized the concept of convex
functions. Jensen, in particular, introduced the famous Jensen inequality, which is fundamental to the theory of
convexity.
Optimization and Economics: In the 20th century, convex functions gained great importance in optimization theory and
economics. Convexity became a key tool for solving maximization and minimization problems, thanks to the fact that
convex functions have properties that facilitate the analysis of critical points.
Contemporary Research: Today, the study of convex functions is an active area of research in pure and applied
mathematics. They are used in fields such as game theory, economics, information theory, and convex optimization.

That is to say, the modern definition of convex function has been consolidated over time, but one of the key authors in
the formalization of this concept is the American mathematician Paul Halmos. His work “Finite-Dimensional Vector
Spaces” and other texts have contributed to establishing a clear and formal understanding of convexity in mathematical
analysis.
Without a doubt, the notion of Convex Function is one of the mathematical concepts that have been most fruitful in
recent years, given its multiple applications not only in Mathematical Sciences. In the following, it is a real, closed and
bounded interval. It is said that a function 𝑓: 𝐼 ⊆ ℝ → ℝ is convex in the interval I, if the inequality
Optimization Properties: Convex functions have the property that any local minimum is also a global minimum. This
greatly simplifies optimization problems, since you can be sure that any point where the function reaches a minimum is
the best possible.
Ease of Computation: Techniques for finding optima of convex functions are generally more efficient. There are specific
algorithms, such as the gradient descent method, that work well on this type of functions.
Modeling Real Problems: Many problems in economics, engineering, and applied sciences can be modeled using convex
functions. This allows the use of robust mathematical tools for the analysis and solution of such problems.
Important Theorems: There are many fundamental theorems in analysis and optimization theory that apply to convex
functions, such as the convex separation theorem or the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker theorem, which are essential for the study
of optimization problems.
Interdisciplinarity: Convex functions appear in a variety of disciplines, from game theory to machine learning, making
them a key concept at the intersection of mathematics, economics, and computer science.
In short, convexity facilitates the analysis, optimization, and resolution of complex problems in a variety of fields of
knowledge.
All of the above has led to more and more researchers becoming involved in research related to this concept, which has
led to a fairly notable production in recent years. In this way, the classical notion has spread and become generalized in
multiple directions. Interested readers can consult [85], where a fairly comprehensive study was conducted of the most
commonly used notions until 2020. From this work we took the following diagram:

Definition 1. A function 𝜓: 𝐼 = [0, +∞) → [0, +∞) is denomined a (ℎ, 𝑚)-convex modified of the first type
on 𝐼 if the following inequality
𝜓(𝜏𝜉 + 𝑚(1 − 𝜏)𝜍) ≤ ℎ 𝑠 (𝜏)𝜓(𝜉) + 𝑚(1 − ℎ 𝑠 (𝜏))𝜓(𝜍) (2)
hold, with ℎ: [0,1] → ℝ a nonnegative function, ℎ ≠ 0, for all 𝜉, 𝜍 ∈ 𝐼, 𝜏 ∈ [0,1], and 𝑚 ∈ [0,1], 𝑠 ∈ [−1,1].

Definition 2. A function 𝜓: 𝐼 = [0, +∞) → [0, +∞) is denomined a (ℎ, 𝑚)-convex modified of the second
type on 𝐼 if the following inequality
𝑠
𝜓(𝜏𝜉 + 𝑚(1 − 𝜏)𝜍) ≤ ℎ 𝑠 (𝜏)𝜓(𝜉) + 𝑚(1 − ℎ(𝜏)) 𝜓(𝜍) (3)
hold, with ℎ: [0,1] → ℝ a nonnegative function, ℎ ≠ 0, for all 𝜉, 𝜍 ∈ 𝐼, 𝜏 ∈ [0,1], and 𝑚 ∈ [0,1], 𝑠 ∈ [−1,1].
𝑠 [𝐼],
Remark 3. Taking into account the Definitions 1 and 2 previous, we can denote 𝑁ℎ,𝑚 where I ⊂ [0, +∞) with I
some nondegenerate real interval, to the set of functions (ℎ, 𝑚) − convex modified, characterized by the triple
(𝑚, 𝑠, ℎ(𝑧)). Note that if:
1. (0,0, ℎ(𝑧)) we have the increasing functions ([23]).
8. (𝑚, 𝑠, 𝑧) 𝑠 ∈ (0,1] then 𝜓 is a (𝑠, 𝑚)-convex extended function on [0, +∞) ([94]).
9. (1, 𝑠, 𝑧 𝑎 ) with 𝑎 ∈ (0,1], then 𝜓 is a (𝑎, 𝑠)-convex function on [0, +∞) ([20]).
10. (𝑚, 1, 𝑧 𝑎 ) with 𝑎 ∈ (0,1], then 𝜓 is a (𝑎, 𝑚)-convex function on [0, +∞) ([69]).
11. (𝑚, 𝑠, 𝑧 𝑎 ) with 𝑎 ∈ (0,1], then 𝜓 is a 𝑠 − (𝑎, 𝑚)-convex function on [0, +∞) ([111]).
12. (𝑚, 1, ℎ(𝑧)) then 𝜓 is a variant of an (ℎ, 𝑚) −convex function on [0, +∞) ([89]).
The usefulness of inequalities in a general sense is well known, especially those linked to convex functions, and is
widely recognized as one of the main pillars of development of Mathematical Sciences today, which has led to greater
attention from researchers, both mathematicians and applied scientists.
Let 0 < 𝑥1 ≤ 𝑥2 ≤. . . ≤ 𝑥𝑛 and let 𝑤𝑘 (1 ≤ 𝑘 ≤ 𝑛) be positive weights associated with these 𝑥𝑘 and whose sum is
unity. Then Jensen’s inequality ([71]):
𝑓(∑𝑤𝑘 𝑥𝑘 ) ≤ ∑𝑤𝑘 𝑓(𝑥𝑘 ) (4)
holds.
The Hermite-Hadamar inequality is perhaps one of the best known within the topic of integral inequalities. For any
convex function 𝑓 on [𝑎, 𝑏]. The inequality:
𝑎+𝑏 1 𝑏 𝑓(𝑎)+𝑓(𝑏)
𝑓( 2
) ≤ 𝑏−𝑎 ∫𝑎 𝑓 (𝑥)𝑑𝑥 ≤ 2
(5)
holds,
This inequality was published by Hermite ([49]) in 1883 and, independently, by Hadamard in 1893 ([47]), it is one of
the few ways to estimate the integral mean value of a function, in this case, convex, we can also say that the integral
mean value of a convex function interpolates Jensen's inequality for n=2 and weights equal to 1/2 (see also

[28,48,70,77]). In recent years we can see four perfectly defined directions of work in refining and generalizing the
previous inequality:
1. Using different notions of convexity (see [3],[10],[11],[12],[13],[16],[33],[39],[44],[58],[62],[66],[84],[109]).
2. Refinement of the mesh used (there is a crucial issue in this direction of work, suppose we use instead of 𝑎
𝑎+𝑏
and 𝑏, the ends of the interval, the points 𝑎, 2 and 𝑏, then we must ensure that at the midpoint, the integral
operator used, does not have a jump, since the result would not be guaranteed in all [𝑎, 𝑏]).
3. Improved estimates of the left and right members of (5) (see [7]).
4. Using new generalized and fractional integral operators (see [9],[14],[15],[19],[21],[24],[34],[35], [36],[37],
[38], [40],[46],[45],[61],[63], [64],[65],[67],[68],[74],[75],[76],[78],[79],[80],[81],[83],[86],[96],[107],[108]).
In this note we review some of the best-known definitions of convexity and, on that basis, we present a more compact
version of the definition given by Kalinin in [56, 57]. Later we present a variant of the classical Hermite-Hadamard
inequality.
of positive values 𝑎 and 𝑏 for 𝑥 = 1 ; for such 𝑥 , the function given in (6) is defined for any values 𝑎 and 𝑏 .
Consequently, in terms of weighted average power (6), so the inequality (5) can be represented as
(λ,1−λ) (λ,1−λ)
𝑓 (𝐹𝑎,𝑏 (1)) ≤ 𝐹𝑓(𝑎),𝑓(𝑏) (1) (7)
The last point, inspires Kalinin in the introduction a more general concept of convexity, which allows studying a broader
class of functions that may not be convex in the classical sense, but which maintain useful properties in optimization
and analysis.ithat generalizes the concept of classic convex function.
Definition 4. A real function f, positive and continuous defined on the interval 𝐼 ⊂ (0, +∞), is denomined (𝛼, 𝛽)-
convex if for any interval [𝑎, 𝑏] ⊂ 𝐼 and any number 𝜆 ∈ (0,1) the following inequality is fulfilled:
(λ,1−λ) (λ,1−λ)
𝑓 (𝐹𝑎,𝑏 (α)) ≤ 𝐹𝑓(𝑎),𝑓(𝑏) (β). (8)
The function f will be (𝛼, 𝛽)-nonstrict convex, if the inequality (8) is not strict.
Remark 5. From the above Definition, it is clear that if ==1 the f is a classic convex function. In the same way if
=1, =0 we have a function logarithmic convexity on this interval, if =0, =1 then we obtain the GA-convexity, and
if =-1, =1 the f is harmonically convex.
Let us dwell on the previous Definition. If we analyze the Definition of (ℎ, 𝑚)-convexity it is clear that the previous
definition is not included, as are many of the ones it contains. This makes it necessary to extend and generalize Kalini’s
definitions to include new classes of convex functions.
Finally, we want to generalize the above definitions as follows.

Journal Title 2024, Voluem(Issue), x.
Definition 6. A positive and continuous function 𝑓: 𝐼 ⊆ ℝ → ℝ on interval 𝐼 ⊂ (0, +∞), is called a function (𝐴, 𝐵)-
convex of (𝑝, 𝑞)-type, if the following inequality hold:
Remark 7. From Definitions 6 we can consider the following point 𝑝1 (𝜆), 𝑝2 (1 − 𝜆), 𝑞1 (𝜆), 𝑞2 (1 − 𝜆), 𝐴 and 𝐵. In
this way, we can characterize our last definition by the sextuple (𝑝1 (𝜆), 𝑝2 (1 − 𝜆), 𝑞1 (𝜆), 𝑞2 (1 − 𝜆), 𝐴, 𝐵). So we have
(not exhaustively):
1. 𝑓 is a convex function on [0, +∞) if (𝜆, 1 − 𝜆, 𝜆, 1 − 𝜆, 1,1).
2. 𝑓 is a 𝑚-convex function on [0, +∞) with 𝑚 ∈ [0,1] if (𝜆, 𝑚(1 − 𝜆), 𝜆, 𝑚(1 − 𝜆), 1,1).
3. 𝑓 is a 𝑠-convex function in the second sense on [0, +∞) with 𝑠 ∈ (0,1] if (𝜆, 1 − 𝜆, 𝜆𝑠 , (1 − 𝜆)𝑠 , 1,1).
4. 𝑓 is a (𝑠, 𝑚) -convex function in the second sense on [0, +∞) with 𝑚 ∈ [0,1] and 𝑠 ∈ (0,1] if
(𝜆, 𝑚(1 − 𝜆), 𝜆𝑠 , 𝑚(1 − 𝜆)𝑠 , 1,1).
5. 𝑓 is a (ℎ, 𝑚)-convex modified function in the second sense on [0, +∞) where 𝑚 ∈ [0,1], 𝑠 ∈ [−1,1] if
𝑠
(𝜆, 𝑚(1 − 𝜆), ℎ(𝜆)𝑠 , 𝑚(1 − ℎ(𝜆)) , 1,1), (see Definition 2).
All of the above shows the breadth and scope of this new class of convex functions.
In the case of 𝑛 = 2, Jensen’s Inequality (4), we can write it, using the notations of the Definition 6 in the following
way:
𝜆𝜆 𝜆𝜆
( , ) ( , )
22 22
𝑓 (𝐹𝑎,𝑏 (1)) ≤ 𝐹𝑓(𝑎),𝑓(𝑏) (1).
This allows us a more concise expression of the Hermite-Hadamard Inequality in this form:
𝜆𝜆 𝜆𝜆
( , ) 1 𝑏 ( , )
𝑓 (𝐹𝑎,𝑏2 2 (1)) ≤ 𝑏−𝑎 ∫𝑎 𝑓 (𝑥)𝑑𝑥 ≤ 𝐹𝑓(𝑎),𝑓(𝑏)
22
(1). (10)
As a visual detail, we add the fulfillment of the Hermite-Hadamard Inequality, for the convex function 𝑓(𝑥) = 𝑥 2 .

Readers may ask: why are new notions of convexity necessary? Specifically, they are necessary for several reasons:
Different Contexts: As mathematics expands, other fields (such as optimization, geometry, and economics) emerge that
require adaptations of the concept of convexity to be applicable in their specific contexts.
Generalization: Newer definitions can generalize convexity properties to include broader mathematical structures, such
as infinite-dimensional vector spaces or nondifferentiable functions.
Interaction with other areas: New definitions can facilitate the connection between convexity and other mathematical
concepts, such as topology, game theory, or measure theory, thus expanding its usefulness.
Improvements in Application: In applied fields, such as economics and statistics, new definitions allow for more
complex and realistic phenomena to be modeled, adapting convexity to practical situations.
Technological Advances: With the development of algorithms and computational methods, specific needs arise that
require more precise and flexible approaches in the study of convexity.
These reasons show how the evolution of the concept of convexity allows mathematical and applied problems to be
addressed more effectively and comprehensively.
3. Conclusions
In this note we have generalized the classical definition of a convex function, using the idea of [56,57] and presented
a more concise expression for the classical Hermite-Hadamard inequality.
However, we would like to point out some open points.
Obviously from the Definition 6, we are left with some additional details. In [3] we presented the following definitions.
Definition 8. A non empty set 𝒦 is called generalized 𝜙–convex, if
𝑏 + 𝜆𝐄𝛼 (𝑎 − 𝑏) ∈ 𝒦
7
Journal Title 2024, Voluem(Issue), x.
holds for all 𝑎, 𝑏 ∈ 𝒦 and 𝜆 ∈ [0,1] with 𝐄𝛼 (⋅) the Mittag–Leffler function. We say that ℎ is 𝜙–concave if −ℎ is 𝜙–
convex.
It is clear that this class of convex functions is not contained in the Definition 6. The need to extend this Definition
then naturally arises, let us rewrite the classical argument of a convex function 𝜆𝑎 + (1 − 𝜆)𝑏 as 𝑏 + (𝑎 − 𝑏)𝜆 so we
have
Thus we have:
Definition 10. A positive and continuous function 𝑓: 𝐼 ⊆ ℝ → ℝ on interval 𝐼 ⊂ (0, +∞), is called generalized 𝜙–
convex on a generalized 𝜙–convex set 𝒦, if the inequality:
(1,𝜆 𝜆,1−𝜆
𝑓 (𝐹𝑏,𝐄𝛼(𝑎−𝑏) (1)) ≤ 𝐹𝑓(𝑎),𝑓(𝑏) (1). (11)
This new functional class can be characterized by (𝑏, 𝐄𝛼 (𝑎 − 𝑏), 1, 𝜆, 𝜆, 1 − 𝜆, 1,1), i.e., is characterized by the octuple
instead of the sextuple of the previous Definition.
Obviously, there remain many properties and consequences of the introduction of these new classes of convex functions,
but that will be the subject of future work.
