The Nigerian govt in regard to the issue of human trafficking has taken several

initiatives to curb the issue such as

1. Enhanced coordination between National Agency for the Prohibition of
Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on law
enforcement efforts—including investigating illicit centers exploiting women
in forced surrogacy or sexual exploitation.

2. Countries such as Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, and the

Philippines are considered significant source nations for human trafficking.
NAPTIP’s Judicial Research Center provided NAPTIP officers access to
resources to strengthen trafficking cases and enhance prosecution efforts.

3. In partnership with international organizations, the government trained

NAPTIP officials, law enforcement, prosecutors, judicial actors, immigration
officials, and civil society on topics including drafting international anti-
trafficking MOUs, shelter standards, identifying trafficking victims, and
conducting victim-centered investigations.

Respected chairs and delegates,

The federal republic of Nigeria being well aware of its current deteriorating governmental status owing to concentration of
power in a small number of individuals resulting in a breakdown in checks and balances, limitations on civil liberties,
irregularities in elections, weak independent institutions, corruption, regional divisions etc. Nigeria has experienced a complex
history with its democracy, there have been persistent concerns about the quality and stability of its democracy. However,
several efforts have been incorporated to address these issues and strengthen democratic institutions. Civil society
organizations, activists, and citizens have played significant roles in advocating for democratic reforms and holding the
government accountable. electoral reforms, anti-corruption, security sector reforms have been incorporated. To ensure effective
implication of these measures, there has been system of fines and imprisonment established in the nation in case of any
violation. Nigeria looks forward to working with other nations experiencing similar flaws for the betterment if its people.
