Q. 1 Anelectronics company produces three types of pats for automatic washing machines. It purchases 8
castings of the parts A, B, and C from a local foundry and then finishes the part on driling, shaping and
polishing machines The selling prices of parts A, B, and C respectively are $ 8, $10 and $14, All pats
made can be sold. Castings for parts A, B and C respectively cost $ 5, $6 and $10 per respective part.

ne company possesses only one of each type of machine. Cost per hour to run each of the three
machines are $20 for driling, $30 for shaping and $30 for polishing. The capacities (parts per hour) for
each part on each machine are shown in the following table:

Machine Capacities (part per hour)_

Part A Parl BPart C
Drilling 25 40 25
Shaping 25 20 20
Polishing 40 30 40
The management of the company wants to know how many parts of each type it should produce per hour
in order to maximize profit for an hour's run. Formulate this problem as an LP model soas to maximize
totalprofittothecompany. Clearly describeall decisionvariables and allconstraints.
Q.2 a A tour company XYZ has $420,000. The company can use this money to purchase new boats (of Four 5
ypes) for hire during the summer. The boats can be purchased from two different manufacturers
(SLEEKBOAT, RACERBOAT). The XYZ Company would like to purchase at least 50 boats. The
company would like to purchase the equal number of boats from Sleekboat as well as from Racerboat.
Atthe same time,XYZ Company wishes to have a total seating capacity of at least 200. Petinent data
concerning the boats are summarized and is given below.

Boat type Manufacturer Cost ($)| Maximum Daily

Speedybird Sleekboat
seating capacity profit ($)
6,000 3 70

Silverbird Sleekboat 7,000 5 80

Catman Racerboat 5,000 2 50

Classica Racerboat 9,000 6 110

Formulate this problem as a linear program to maximize the daily profit.
Clearly describe all decision variables and all constraints.
