Collaborative Projects
The goal of collaborative class projects is to help students learn how to function in these modern
work environments. In many of these courses, students perform research or solve problems as a team,
allowing them to learn the skills necessary to work together in an efficient and productive manner.
Through these assignments, students learn project management skills, how to share tasks, engage with
each other, and benefit from listening to others’ viewpoints and backgrounds.

Collaborative projects pose challenges. Working together on a project, students will get to know
their peers, develop leadership and communication strategies, and learn how to work on a team. They
may experience issues that come from lack of organization and leadership, and must learn to overcome
these challenges as they complete the project. The hands-on, real-life aspect of the work involved makes
collaborative projects invaluable experiences. Furthermore, by sharing the workload, students often can
achieve far more meaningful research results and gain more insights into the material than they could
have done alone.

Technology Tools for Collaborative Work

a. Google Suite/G Suite – Google

Workspace, formerly known as G
Suite, is a collection of cloud
computing, productivity and
collaboration tools, software and
products developed and marketed
by Google. It was first launched in
2006 as Google Apps for Your
Domain and rebranded as G Suite
in 2016. G Suite for Education
provides a suite of cloud-based
tools to K–12 and higher-
education institutions and U.S.
homeschools. The tools and
services include messaging and
collaboration apps, such as Gmail,
Google Drive, Google Calendar,
Classroom, and so on.

b. Edmodo – Edmodo is a global education network that helps connect

all learners with the people and resources needed to reach their full
potential. Create a learning community using this free social learning
platform. Edmodo lets students access course content uploaded by their
teachers. In addition, they can share useful ideas and helpful tips.
Edmodo is an educational website that takes the ideas of a social
network and refines them and makes it appropriate for a classroom.
Using Edmodo, students and teachers can reach out to one another and
connect by sharing ideas, problems, and helpful tips. A teacher can assign and grade work on
Edmodo; students can get help from the entire class on Edmodo. It is a safe environment. There
is no bullying or inappropriate content, because the teacher can see everything that is posted on
Edmodo. Also parents can join the class to bring a level of transparency that is difficult to
achieve without technology.

c. bubbl.us - Bubbl.us name derived from the word 'bubbles'. More specifically from 'thought
bubbles'. Bubbl.us makes it easy to organize your ideas visually in a way that makes sense to
you and others. Its user interface is designed to help you stay focused on task by keeping the
number of visible buttons to a minimum as you work. Bubbl.us lets you share your mind maps
easily with people or on social media. You can collaborate with friends or colleagues in real
time in a classroom or a business meeting and see changes to the mind
map immediately. (bubbl.us)

d. Wikispaces - Wikispaces offers a convenient, easy-to-use wiki

platform. The term 'wiki' refers to websites that allow users to alter and add to
existing content. Wikispaces allows users to tailor a wiki to their specific
needs, making it a great tool for a variety of applications. It is a collaborative,
community-driven Web platform well suited for educational settings. Teachers
can start wikis for homework advice, study groups, class projects, etc.

e. Others
There are a lot of collaborative tools online which teachers and students can make use of.
Here are examples:

COLLABORATIVE WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE APP

TOOLS
Padlet is good for sharing digital content and improving the engagement of
the students. It has two versions (for school and for business), and provides
a controlled learning environment that helps the teacher to enhance the
writing process. Here are some of the functions you can perform with
Padlet:

1. Teachers can create special brainstorm sessions where they invite

students to discuss some topics, all with excellent opportunities
provided by Padlet, such as sharing Internet findings, ideas, and
visual aids.
Padlet 2. Book review sessions are another great lesson idea. Create a session
dedicated to a book and invite the students to share their reviews
and comment on the ideas of others.
3. Students can use Padlet as a portfolio for showcasing their best
school projects on their profile.
4. It has a feedback tool to provide an assessment of students’ work.
5. Links to various multimedia resources are provided.

Socrative is an innovative platform for teachers and students that is

essentially an application for effective classroom management. The
developers of this great app have put a special emphasis on having fun and
on interactive activities, which are perfect for increasing the engagement of
students. The features of Socrative are below.

1. Activities that engage students

2. Quizzes featuring the most interesting topics from the lesson
3. Reporting to enhance the students’ understanding of the class on an
individual level
Socrative 4. Chat and discussion rooms to promote online collaboration
5. “Space Race” feature that encourages friendly competition among
students with intergalactic quiz bowl
6. Feedback to improve the experience of the students throughout the
course

Kahoot is a free student-response tool for administering quizzes, facilitating

discussions, and collecting survey data. It is a game-based classroom
response system played in real time. Questions are projected on a shared
screen, while players answer the questions with their smartphone, tablet, or
computer; creating a social, fun and game-like environment. Kahoot allows
for the design of multiple-choice quizzes as well as polls and surveys that
populate on-the-spot data; the quiz questions and polls stimulate quick
instructional decisions as well as whole-class discussion.

Classcraft will bring video-game-like adventures to your classroom. You

can create online quests based on lesson plans to engage students in a unique
way. Students can also take quizzes, chat online with one another, and
discuss course material while playing a beautifully designed game.
Classcraft allows students to work together to complete a common goal that
correlates with their unit. They can create cross-curricular connections by
completing quests on multiple subjects.

EVALUATION

Collaborative Work

Craft/Revise a Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan of any learning area as an evidence of learning. It

must allow your students to collaborate with one another using the discussed collaborative tools or other
online tools. Your class set up must be online. A rubric shall be used in assessing the semi-detailed
lesson plan uploaded in the Google Classroom Activity.
