CHAPTER 3: LESSON 1
EXPERIENCE
1. Review the different theories of learning specifically those that are under the
behavioral theories, cognitive theories, and social constructivism.
2. Choose your top three (3) best learning theories and identify their proponents.
Behavioral theories like Operant Conditioning (B.F. Skinner) explain learning
through reinforcement and punishment, shaping behaviors by rewarding or
discouraging actions.
Cognitive theories, such as Cognitive Development Theory (Jean Piaget),
emphasize the mental processes involved in learning and highlight how learners
construct knowledge through developmental stages.
In Social Constructivism (Lev Vygotsky’s Social Development Theory), learning
is seen as a social process, where interactions with others and guided support are
essential for cognitive growth.
EXCHANGE
1. Why do you consider your top three theories of learning the best among other
theories?
I consider Operant Conditioning, Cognitive Development Theory, and Social
Development Theory the best learning theories because they cover behavior,
thinking, and social interaction. Skinner’s theory helps teachers manage the
classroom by using rewards to encourage good behavior. Piaget’s theory helps
teachers adjust lessons based on how students think and understand at different
ages. Vygotsky’s theory shows the importance of learning with others,
encouraging group activities and teamwork. Together, these theories help teachers
support students’ learning and development in different ways.
2. A professional teacher must possess knowledge and skill that are founded on various
sound learning theories. Why is it important for him/her to understand these
various theories of learning in performing his/her role and tasks?
It’s important for teachers to understand different learning theories because they
explain how students learn and act. This helps teachers use the best methods to
teach and manage the classroom based on each student’s needs. Theories guide
teachers in creating a good learning environment where students feel encouraged
to grow and learn. They also help teachers support students’ thinking and social
skills, making learning more effective. Knowing these theories gives teachers the
tools they need to do their job well.

CHAPTER 3: LESSON 2
EXPERIENCE
1. Review the Principle of learning by Horne and Pine, (1990) as cited in Corpuz and
Salandanan (2007)
PRINCIPLE OF LEARNING
1. Learning is an experience which occurs inside the learner and is activated by the
learner.
2. Learning is the discovery of the personal meaning and relevance of ideas.
3. Learning is a consequence of experience. In short, use experiential learning as much
as possible period.
4. Learning is a cooperative and collaborative process.
5. Learning is an evolutionary process
6. Learning is sometimes a painful process.
7. One of the richest resources for learning is the learner him/ herself.
8. The process of learning is emotional as well as intellectual
9. The process of problem solving and learning is highly unique and individual.
Two important principles of learning are that learning is about finding personal
meaning and that learning happens through working together. The first
principle means students learn best when they can connect new ideas to their own
lives and find them useful. This helps them understand and remember the lessons
better. The second principle focuses on the importance of working with others, as
sharing ideas and helping each other makes learning easier and more effective.
Both personal connection and teamwork are important for successful learning.

What do you think is the implication if teacher will apply your chosen principles on
the teaching-learning process?
