Background
UNICEF is the UN organization mandated to protect the rights of
every child, everywhere, especially the most disadvantaged, and is
the only organization specifically named in the Convention on the Rights of
the Child as a source of expert assistance and advice. UNICEF is committed
to giving every child in the Region a fair chance to be healthy,
educated, protected and included. They support children who are
affected by humanitarian crises, and mitigate the impact of natural disasters.
They provide solid evidence on what works in the best interests of children.

Objectives
1. Ensure all children learn - from mounting temporary learning
centers, to providing educational materials including internet
connections & devices;
2. Guarantee access to nutrition & health services. They work hard
to make vaccines affordable & available to every child;
3. Support and protect the mental health of children & young
people. They are committed in bringing an end to abuse, gender-
based violence, & neglect in childhood;
4. Increase access to safe drinking water, sanitation, & hygiene,
including addressing environmental degradation and climate change;
5. Reverse the rise in child poverty, because they believe that no
child deserves to live in hunger, fear, and homelessness, they strive to
help ensure an inclusive recovery for all;
6. Protect and support children and their families living through
conflict, disaster, & displacement.
:
UNICEF is committed to ensuring special protection for the most
disadvantaged children – victims of war, disasters, extreme poverty, all
forms of violence and exploitation, and those with disabilities. UNICEF
responds in emergencies to protect the rights of children.

Challenges that it has encountered in the Philippines

Apart from high rates of stunting and neonatal deaths, low routine
immunization coverage and lack of access to clean water and sanitation
facilities also threaten children’s survival and development in the Philippines.
This is exacerbated by natural disasters and climate change that impact one
of the most disaster-prone countries in the world.
Children who do make it past their fifth birthday face an uncertain future.
During adolescence, children are faced with various challenges that impede
their health and well-being. Teenage pregnancy, HIV infections, and violence
are a few of the threats they face. For the last years, UNICEF encountered
these problems: sustainable development deficits, persistent humanitarian
crises and fragility, the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and
environmental crises and climate change.
