Hey everyone, I'm Phong, so right into the topic, this Pecha Kucha presentation is

about Emission and whatever connection it has to the climate change. You all have
probably known or heard about it already but let's get started.

In this Emission topic, there're 3 things that I would like to talk about:
Production, waste treatment and use of passenger/personal vehicles. They all have
one thing in common, which is releasing gases such as CO2, CO, N2O, CH4 and those
gases will enlarge the ozone hole and when the ozone layer is punctured, the Earth
is directly exposed to the Sun, leading to global warming.

Some places used to be cold now they are hotter. For example, this polar bear, if
the global warming still exists in the next 50 years, I believe this is where they
live, sitting on an ice pillar. Or Dalat used to be colder than today, even in the
summer, but now there's no more cool breeze blowing through your hair as the Earth
is getting hotter, Dalat average temperature isn't that low anymore.

Global warming will cause climate change, changing the climate of places on Earth
dramatically. In the far future, this is where we live, under the water. Earth will
be Atlantic extended version, drown in water and hope all of us will have enough
scuba diving equipment.

Let's start with the first one on the list: Production. All the products and energy
we use come from production of factories. However, production releases a lot of
harmful gases that cause greenhouse effect.

Factories use coal and wood as fuel to produce energy and items. However, when coal
and wood are burnt with fire, they will create gases that cause the greenhouse
effect. According to Energy Institute, China is at the top for carbon dioxide
emissions from energy production and 2nd is the US (12,603.5 MT CO2e - metric tons
of CO2 equivalent - 5,130.1 MT CO2e). The dependence on coal and oil for main
energy source are one of the primary factors behind its high emission levels.

Plastic production also contributes to greenhouse effect, accounts for 3.3% of

global emission. Plastic creation generated 2.24 gigatons of planet-heating
pollution in 2019, or as much as 600 coal-fired power plants. There you go,
emission from producing the thing you are using once then throw away everyday could
even be compared to emission of a coal-fired power plants. So start thinking of
ways to stop using one-time plastic goods.

Waste treatment, troublesome isn't it? For years, the world has been thinking ways
to treat waste such as: use used plastic items to make clothes, used papers to make
new paper, make sustainable straws, etc. But we still can't solve its effect.

Say landfills, landfills release methane aka CH4 to the atmosphere, which
contributes to the greenhouse effect and cause climate change.

Or waste incineration, non-biodegradable wastes have to be burnt and burning them

will release N2O and CO2 into the air, and like I mentioned, climate change. All of
those above are considered improper. Yes, they can vanish the wastes but the cost
is too big.

Wooo, that was stressful, but let's get to the last thing in my Pecha Kucha's
presentation: Vehicle exhausting fumes. In Vietnam, besides from motorbikes,
recently there are a lot of cars in the past 7 years, since GrabCar existence.

According to the US Environmental Protection Agency or EPA, CO2 emissions from a

gallon of gasoline: 8,887 grams CO2/ gallon and from a gallon of diesel: 10,180
grams CO2/ gallon. The average passenger vehicle emits about 400 grams of CO2 per
mile, about 4.6 metric tons of CO2 per year.
Some people here are using E5 petrol right? So basically E5 is 95% traditional
petrol and 5% ethanol. Although it helps the petrol to burn 100%, it's still
releases the harmful gas which cause greenhouse effect and global warming because
it's 95% petrol, still a lot of petrol.

To summarize, production, waste treatment and vehicle exhausting fumes all

contribute to emission of greenhouse gases which cause greenhouse effect, leading
to global warming and the consequence of all that is climate change.

And this is the end. Hope the Earth in the next 50 years won't be this gravestone,
thank you for listening.
