Exploring Depths
ABSTRACT
Submerged structures like oil rigs, ship hulls, floating systems, anchored platforms often face the
problem of corrosion which poses a serious threat to its lifespan. This project proposes a novel robotic
system developed for autonomous corrosion detection to take early preventive actions and maintenance.
It equips a high-resolution camera system for visual inspections, with real-time image analysis using
advanced machine learning and deep learning AI technologies to identify corrosion. With add on eddy
current testing (ECT), ultrasonic sensors measure corrosion rates and material health. Data collected
during inspections are transmitted to the remote-control center and facilitates real-time decision making.
The primary benefits of this robotic system include eliminating the need for human drivers at hazardous
conditions, reducing cost, enhanced efficiency and environmental impact. The system's autonomy
enables for continuous monitoring and detection without the need for human involvement, improving
safety and operational effectiveness in marine situations. This initiative proposal marks a big step
forward in autonomous submerged structures maintenance as the marine sector seeks sustainable and
technologically sophisticated solutions. Ongoing research and development will further enhance its
capabilities and expand its applications towards detecting abrasion and corrosion in submerged
infrastructures.
