Lab Task: Introduction to MS Word Basics

Objective:

To familiarize students with the basic tools and features of Microsoft Word.

Instructions:

Follow the steps below and complete the tasks provided. Save your work frequently.

Part 1: Opening and Creating a Document

 Open MS Word and create a new blank document.


 Save the document as "Lab_Task_1.docx".

Part 2: Basic Text Formatting

 Type the sentence: "Microsoft Word is a powerful word processing application."


 Apply formatting:
o Font style: Arial
o Font size: 14
o Bold the entire sentence
o Italicize the word "powerful"
o Underline the word "Word"
o Change the font color to dark blue.

Part 3: Paragraph Formatting

 Type a new paragraph about the importance of learning MS Word, such as:

"Learning MS Word is essential for students and professionals alike. It helps improve
document formatting, collaboration, and presentation. Mastering this tool enhances
productivity and efficiency in academic and workplace environments."

 Apply the following formatting to this paragraph:


o Center alignment
o Line spacing of 1.5 lines
o A left indent of 1 inch.
Part 4: Bullet and Numbered Lists

 Numbered list:
1. Open MS Word
2. Type your document
3. Format the text
4. Save the file
 Bulleted list:
o Keyboard shortcuts
o Font styles
o Page layout
o Spell check

Part 5: Inserting Elements

 Insert a picture from your computer (any picture can be used, such as an icon or stock
image).
 Resize the picture to fit appropriately within the document.

Part 6: Headers, Footers, and Page Numbers

 Insert a header with your name (e.g., "John Doe").


 Insert a footer with today’s date (e.g., "October 6, 2024").
 Insert page numbers at the bottom-right of the page.

Part 7: Saving and Printing

 Save the document.


 Use Print Preview to check how the document looks before printing (no need to actually
print unless required).

Part 8: Working with Shapes and Text Boxes

 Insert a rectangle shape.


 Add text inside the shape: "This is a shape".
 Change the shape's color to light blue and the text's color to white.
 Move the shape to the bottom-right corner of the page.
Part 9: Inserting a Table

 Insert a 3x3 table.


 Fill in the table as follows:

Submit Report Not Started 10/12/2024
Review Notes Completed 10/08/2024

 Center the text in the "Status" column and bold the first row.

Part 10: Using Find and Replace

 Use the Find feature to search for “MS Word”.


 Replace all occurrences of “MS Word” with “Microsoft Word”.

Part 11: Using Styles

 Highlight the heading "Lab Task: Introduction to MS Word Basics" and apply the
Heading 1 style.
 Add a new heading titled "Conclusion" at the end of the document and apply the
Heading 1 style.
 Below the "Conclusion" heading, write:
"This lab has introduced the basic features of Microsoft Word. It will help me create
well-formatted documents efficiently."

Part 12: Creating a Cover Page

 Go to Insert > Cover Page, and choose any template.


 Customize the cover page with:
o Name: John Doe
o Class: MS Word Basics
o Date: October 6, 2024
Part 13: Page Layout Settings

 Change the page orientation to Landscape.


 Set the margins to narrow (0.5 inches).
 Change the paper size to A4.

Part 14: Spell Check and Grammar

 Run Spell Check and Grammar.


 Fix any issues flagged by the system (e.g., "MS Word" replaced with "Microsoft Word").

Part 15: Adding Hyperlinks

 Select the text “Microsoft Word” in the sentence typed in Part 2.


 Insert a hyperlink to an online resource (e.g., https://www.microsoft.com/en-
us/microsoft-365/word).
 Ensure the link works when clicked.
