Module 57
Module 57
1.6L TDI (PCR2.1) [RD/WR/CK] (reading/writing the map area after unlocking in BSL!)
PCR2.1 (EEPROM/UNLOCK/BSL) [RD/WR/UNLOCK] (reading/writing EEPROM, ECU unlocking)
SIMOS 8.xx ECUs were installed in Audi vehicles with large engines. 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, 8.4, 8.5 ECUs
are written via OBD, nothing else is required. 8.3, 8.4 and 8.5 are provided with the stock files
database (it has full ECU software, update is possible). SIMOS 8.6 requires opening and
unlocking in the BSL mode with the appropriate module.
PCR 2.1 ECUs were installed in VAG vehicles with 1.6L diesel engines. It requires unlocking.
Please note: when real reading is possible, only the map area is read (not full software), in this
case check before writing that the map area version coincides with the current software version.
Otherwise you will brick the ECU after writing. Please work very carefully, only SIMOS 8.1/8.2
ECUs can be recovered with Module 53. All other ECUs have to be replaced with new ones.
SIMOS 8.4 ECUs can be unlocked too and reading will be possible, but it is recommended to use
the stock files provided with the module.
The ECU label usually has one more digit at the end, e.g. SIMOS 8.23. It is not important, it is 8.2
for the software.
The essence of unlocking is modification of the external EEPROM installed in the ECU. That is
why it is highly recommended to read the EEPROM before unlocking and save it. For PCR2.1
ECUs the current lock state is displayed when reading the ID and in the BSL mode (if it possible to
set it). SIMOS 8.6 unlock state is not displayed.
Every time you press the button “Initialization” in the BSL mode the lock status is changed to the
opposite one. That is why you need to be very careful while working.
Working procedure with the ECUS after unlocking (2.1, 8.6) or if it is not required (8.2, 8.4, 8.5)
It is rather easy. It is important to understand that when reading an unlocked ECU you will get not
the full software but the map area only. In this case writing is possible only when the software
version coincides. If the stock file is taken from the database, there is no such restriction, the ECU
can be ‘updated’.
