Adaptive Security Framework for Internet of Things (IoT) Networks

that leverages Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Machine
Learning (ML)

The adaptive security framework aims to enhance the security of IoT networks by utilizing SDN for
centralized control and ML for real-time anomaly detection and response. This combination allows for
dynamic security policies that adapt to changing network conditions and threats.

COMPONENETS

 SDN Controller: This central component manages the network's resources and policies. It
separates the control plane from the data plane, allowing for more flexible and programmable
network management.

 Machine Learning Model: Use ML algorithms to analyze network traffic patterns and
identify anomalies or potential threats. Models can be trained using historical data to distinguish
between normal and abnormal behaviors.

 IoT Devices: The various sensors and devices in your network that will be monitored and
managed.

 Data Collection and Analysis System: A system that gathers data from the SDN controller
and IoT devices for ML analysis.

. Implementation Steps

1. Set Up the SDN Environment:

o Choose an SDN controller (e.g., OpenDaylight, Floodlight, or Ryu).
o Connect IoT devices to the SDN network, ensuring they can communicate with
the controller.
2. Data Collection:
o Gather network traffic data from the SDN controller and IoT devices. This data
will be used to train the ML models.
o Collect features like packet counts, source/destination IPs, and port numbers.
3. Machine Learning Model Development:
o Choose suitable ML algorithms (e.g., Random Forests, Support Vector
Machines, Neural Networks) for anomaly detection.
o Train the models using the collected data to recognize patterns of normal and
abnormal behavior.
4. Adaptive Security Policy Development:
o Implement security policies in the SDN controller that can be adjusted based on
insights from the ML models. For example, if an anomaly is detected, the
controller can apply stricter security rules or isolate suspicious devices.
5. Real-Time Monitoring and Response:
o Continuously monitor network traffic using the ML model. When an anomaly is
detected, trigger alerts and take appropriate actions (e.g., blocking traffic, sending
notifications).
o Regularly update the ML model with new data to improve its accuracy and
adaptability.
6. User Interface:
o Create a dashboard for network administrators to visualize network traffic,
security alerts, and ML analysis results. Tools like Grafana or Kibana can be
used for data visualization.

APPLICATION

 Smart Homes: Protect smart home devices (e.g., cameras, thermostats) from
unauthorized access and attacks.

 Healthcare: Secure connected medical devices (e.g., wearables, monitoring equipment)

that transmit sensitive patient data.

 Industrial IoT: Enhance the security of industrial automation systems by detecting

anomalies in machine operations or network traffic.

 Smart Cities: Protect various IoT applications like traffic management systems, waste
management, and public safety networks.

Tools and Technologies

 Programming Languages: Python (for ML), Java, or Go (for SDN applications).

 Machine Learning Libraries: Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or Keras.
 SDN Controllers: OpenDaylight, Floodlight, or Ryu.
 Data Visualization Tools: Grafana, Kibana, or Tableau for monitoring and reporti
RGB Guided Thermal Super-Resolution Enhancement

In visual surveillance and security problems, objects can occur in different

conditions of illumination and occlusion, therefore thermal images have
become a major tool in a large variety of applications. By the reason of their
high cost compared to their visual (RGB) counterpart, thermal sensors are
used in low-resolution and in low contrast which introduces the necessity to
obtain a higher resolution version. In this work, we propose a deep learning
model by which to enhance the thermal image resolution guided by RGB
images using GAN based model. The results indicate an improvement in
resolution enhancement using RGB guided thermal super-resolution models
compared to the classical single thermal super-resolution approach.
