A note from Ms. Hofer...

I hope that everyone had a relaxing holiday, and was able to enjoy it with loved ones. Thank you for the thoughtful gifts that Ms. Paul and I received; They were unnecessary, but appreciated! December was in Pre-K, and it was beautiful to see the kind deeds unfold into a blanket of love for baby Jesus. I appreciate you taking the time to fill those out. There are a few literacy based activites that will be coming up in pre-kone being, a reading log. home for you and your child to do together. When the chart is complete, they will get a small prise. More information on this will Follow. Our main focus in Pre-K is on exploring and positive socialization; however, introduceing a love for books and Pre-reading is always beneficial. Happy New year!

The Theme of the month: WINTER

This month we will be exploring the changes that take place during winter. A few exciting activities this month include: sugar cube igloos, hot chocolate with the kindergartens, exploring how freezing temperatures change things, and building an ice castle with our big buddies! You can stay posted on our daily activities by checking out our website for pictures.

We are building an ice castle!

This month, as part of our winter theme, we will be building an miniature ice castle with our big buddies. We need your help creating the blocks of ice! When your one or two litre milk cartons are empty, we ask that you fill them up with water and store them in your freezer until the end of the month. If you have any food colouring at home, you can add a couple drops to the water so the cubes are coloured. We plan to do this activity on the 24th, however, depends on the weather. I ask that you keep your blocks of ice at home until our building day, where you will then leave the ice just outside of the front doors. If you are unable to bring any ice blocks then that is fine as well, but the more we have the better. You can bring as many as youd like and are able to store/carry. If you would like to stay for this and help out you are more than welcome!

Classroom website / Blog

I will be creating a Kids and Parents Corner on the classroom website, where you will find updated links to search. The kids corner includes a variety of educational thematic based activates, which relate to what we are learning in school. The parents corner will be updated with information you may find usefulincluding websites, community opportunities, and more. If you would like to subscribe to the website so you are automatically notified when a post is made, then type your email address in the white space as press submit. If you need help with this, just let me know.

Family Day
When: January 20, 2012 @ 11:20-12:30 a.m. Where: Sandra Schmirler library (3130 E Woodhams Dr) We will be meeting at the Sandra Schmirler library for our Family Day this month, where they will be reading a story book and doing a small activity with the pre-ks. The session will be starting right at 11:30, and will end at about 12:00. This would be a good opportunity to sign up for a library card if you have not already done so; just remember to bring two pieces of I.D. If you would like to go swimming afterwards with your child, public swimming is available at that time. The cost is $5.75 per adult, and $2.60 per child. I look forward to hopefully seeing you there!
