2. Scientists are trying to determine how certain diabetic protein shakes affect a person’s
blood glucose level. They tested two leading diabetic protein shakes along with a placebo.
Three groups consisting of 25 adult women between the ages of 20-40 with type 2 diabetes
were given one of the protein shakes or the placebo. The test subjects’ blood glucose levels
were measured after a 12-hr fast, after which they drank the protein shake/placebo and 30
minutes later their blood glucose levels were measured again.

3. Researchers are studying the effects of energy drinks on cardiovascular responses in
healthy adults. Two groups of 15 healthy adults over 18 years of age were given a popular
commercial energy drink or a placebo. The test subject’s blood pressure and heart rate
were measured at rest before drinking 16oz of the energy drink/placebo. After which, their
blood pressure and heart rate were measured every 10 minutes for an hour.
