Cortisol Guide

Here are 5 core fixes that you can apply now:

1. Cut out sugar for a while

Sugar actually can worsen stress and is usually why «emotional eating» is a
thing. If you feel stressed.. Go workout, do a sauna session, take a walk,
meditate.. These habits will serve you alot more than sugar ever will

2. Exercise

Stress sometimes is unavoidable. But we still have the choice to control how
we react to it. What worsens stress is feeding it further with anger and
frustration. Detaching when you can and exercising is the most powerful way
to take control back.

3. Planning

If you have a tendency to naturally fall into stressful environments, then set
aside some time the day before and plan.

Planning out your days can do so much, and it doesn't have to revolve just
around «work». It can be as simple as planning a few minutes per day to
detach and prioritise yourself.

4. Stop scrolling on social media

Just like sugar, social media is addictive. When we are stressed we resort to
things that will allow us to detach for a moment. But things like sugar and
social media are «dopamine drainers». Prioritize real dopamine. Can be
cooking, walking, exercise, reading a book, ice baths, sauna, literally anything.

5. Stabilize your environment

Environment is powerful and we tend to get sucked into them without even
realizing. But taking a step back once or twice a week and reviewing things
your job, your friends, your hobbies will give you a better awareness of how
you wanna live your life.

(read below)

1. Not Caring About Self-Care

Cause: Ignoring self-care keeps you in constant survival mode, spiking cortisol
and leaving you exhausted.

Fix: Schedule 10-15 min a day for a non-negotiable self-care ritual (reading,
stretching, meditation, workout). Self-care isn't a luxury, it's maintenance.

2. Rushing Tasks

Cause: Multitasking creates a sense of urgency, causing cortisol spikes.

Especially men are not programmed for this. You’ll burn out without realizing.

Fix: Try the Pomodoro Technique (25-min focus, 5-min break). This builds
mental clarity and productivity, preventing burnout.

3. Scrolling on Social Media During Tasks

Cause: Constant switching between tasks and apps prevents your brain from
entering "deep work," increasing cortisol due to unfinished goals.

Fix: Set your phone to Do Not Disturb while working. Use apps like Forest to
grow virtual trees by staying focused.

4. Struggling to Fall Asleep

Cause: Cortisol peaks due to late-night screen time, work stress, or bad sleep
hygiene. Poor sleep leads to fatigue and more stress (evil loop)

Fix: Use blue light blocking glasses after 8 PM, and try magnesium
supplements (calms the nervous system).

5. Feeling Tired and Overwhelmed All Day

Cause: Chronic stress keeps cortisol elevated, leading to fatigue and burnout.

Fix: Incorporate cold showers or ice baths (3-5 min). They shock the system,
reducing inflammation, boosting energy, and balancing cortisol.

6. Always Checking Your Phone for Messages

Cause: Constant dopamine hits from notifications condition you to crave

distractions, raising cortisol.

Fix: Set fixed times to check messages. And have boundaries. Use airplane
mode during deep work sessions. The focus feels liberating.

7. Feeling Uneasy When Doing Nothing

Cause: You’re addicted to busyness, and cortisol spikes when there’s no

stimulation.

Fix: Practice mindful walks or 5-minute breathing exercises. Focus on your

breath to reduce anxiety and train yourself to appreciate downtime.

8. Comparing Yourself to Others

Cause: Social comparison triggers insecurity and stress, causing cortisol to

rise. It’s also a sign you are projecting your “distracting yourself”.

Fix: Remove bad habits that don’t serve you. Focus on creating habits and
structure in your life around things that SERVE YOU.

9. Feeling Guilty for Not Being Productive

Cause: Not being productive is sometimes a sign of something deeper.

Fix:Learn to switch off when you notice you are not productive. This can be a
15-20min sauna session/walk or gym workout. These are game-changing
habits.
