There are 3 types of manufacturing process followed in SAP Production Planning:

1) Discrete Industry

2) Process Industry

3)Repetitive Industry

Discrete Industry Manufacturing Process

In discrete scenario, the manufacturing process is based on production orders. Discrete

manufacturing is characterized by requirements that occur on an irregular basis and a
workshop-oriented process. Basically the demand and supply varies time to time in this
scenario.

Discrete manufacturing forms an industry type where in the products which are
manufactured can be easily assembled and dis-assembled. They can be reworked upon easily
to a large extent. You can say making pumps, engines, cars, airplanes.

Industry Type: Mechanical engineering, Consumer goods, electronics, and many more

Process Industry Manufacturing Process

The component Production Planning for Process Industries (PP-PI) provides an integrated
planning tool for batch-oriented process manufacturing. It is primarily designed for the
chemical, pharmaceutical, food and beverage industries as well as the batch-oriented
electronics industry.

Industry Type: Chemical, Pharma, Poultry, Dairy and many more.

Repetitive manufacturing Process

Company manufactures product in large numbers and production is quantity based and period
based not order based. You can use repetitive manufacturing as either make-to-stock REM or
make-to-order REM such as in the automotive industry.

Repetitive manufacturing form an industry type where in the products manufactured can be
discrete manufactured or process industry type, produced repetitively or continuously in
production lines. This forms the continuous production scenario.

Industry Type: Mechanical engineering, Consumer goods, electronics, and many more
In the below document we are going to explain how the SAP Production Planning integrates with
SAP EWM Advanced Production Integration in SAP S/4 HANA 2023

To achieve this we have to go with following steps

1)Create 2 raw materials with MRP View Mandatory

2)Create 1 Finished material with MRP view & work Scheduling view Mandatory

3)Create a storage location which is EWM Managed storage location

4)Assign Storage location to warehouse and plant in Enterprise Structure

5)Create production supply area in S/4 HANA

6)Create work center in S/4 HANA

7)create a Bill of Materials(BOM) for Finished product

8)Create Routing for Finished product

9)Create control cycles in S/4 HANA for Raw Materials

10)Define Production supply Area in EWM

11)Map storage location in Goods Movement

12)Maintain Stock Determination Groups & Determine stock Determination

13)Define Product group types

14)Define Product group

15)Maintain product group type and product group in Material Master Under Basic Data 2 tab

16)Maintain BC Sets

17)Maintain Product Group Type for PSA Assignment

18)Maintain Warehouse Parameters for Production

19)Map SAP ERP Order Type to SAP EWM Document Type

20)Map SAP ERP Order Type to SAP EWM Item Type

21)Assign bin to PSA/Product/PED(/N/SCWM/PSASTAGE)

22)Define Production supply area storage type(PMRL with role ‘K’) and create bin

23.a&b) maintain Warehouse process type for both single order and cross order components,
Create part replenishment and Not relevant for staging

24)Determine warehouse process type for Single order, cross order along with Document type
and Item type

25) Define Item Types for Production

26) Define Allowed Item Types for Production

27) Maintain strategies

28)Maintain Sock Determination group & Stock Removal Indicator in /N/SCWM/MAT1

29)Testing

1)Create 2 raw materials with MRP View Mandatory

Single order:501

Cross order:502
2)Create 1 Finished material with MRP view & work Scheduling view Mandatory
After entering our BOM and routing information click on Check.it will turn into green colour then
our production version will work
3)Create a storage location which is EWM Managed storage location
4)Assign Storage location to warehouse and plant in Enterprise Structure

5)Create production supply area in S/4 HANA(Tcode:PK05)

6)Create a work center in S/4 HANA(Tcode:CRO1)

7)create a Bill of Materials(BOM) for Finished product

8)Create Routing for Finished product

9)Create control cycles in S/4 HANA for Raw Materials

Single order
Cross order
10)Define Production supply Area in EWM(Tcode:/N/SCWM/PSA)

Path: EASY ACCESS–>SCM EWM–>EWM—>Master Data—>Production Supply Area—>Define

PSA

There are two types of mapping 1)replicate or manual you can map

1)Replicate

/n /SCWM/PSA_REPLICATE - Replicate Production Supply Area (PSA)

2)Manual

/n/scwm/psamap

11)Map storage location in Goods Movement

Path:SPRO-->SCM Extended Warehouse Management-->Extended Warehouse Management----

Interfaces-->ERP Integration-->Goods Movements--->Map Storage Locations from ERP System
to EWM

12)Maintain Stock Determination Groups & Determine stock Determination

Path:SPRO-->IMG-->SCM EWM-->CROSS PROCESS SETTINGS-->STOCK DETERMINATION-

Maintain Stock Determination Groups
13)Define Product group types

Path:Spro->IMG-->SCM EWM-->SCM Basis-->master data-->product --->product groups--

>define product group types
14)Define Product group

Note:In SAP S/4 HANA 2023 there is no option to assign the product group & type at EWM
global level
15)Maintain product group type and product group in Material Master Under Basic Data 2 tab

Single order
Cross order

16)Maintain BC Sets
For PMR

For Product group production supply

17)Maintain Product Group Type for PSA Assignment

Path: SPRO-->SCM Extended Warehouse Management-->EWM-->Master Data--> Production
Supply--> Maintain Product Group Type for PSA Assignment

18)Maintain Warehouse Parameters for Production

Path: SPRO-->SCM Extended Warehouse Management-->EWM-->Master Data--> Production
Supply--> Maintain Warehouse Parameters for Production

19)Map SAP ERP Order Type to SAP EWM Document Type

Path: SPRO-IMG-SCM EWM-EWM-INTERFACES-ERP INTEGRATION-PRODUCTION- Map SAP

ERP Order Type to SAP EWM Document Type
20)Map SAP ERP Order Type to SAP EWM Item Type

Path: SPRO-IMG-SCM EWM-EWM-INTERFACES-ERP INTEGRATION-PRODUCTION- Map SAP

ERP Order Type to SAP EWM Item Type

21)Assign bin to PSA/Product/PED(/N/SCWM/PSASTAGE)

Single order
Cross order
22)Define Production supply area storage type(PMRL with role ‘K’) and create bin
23.a&b) maintain Warehouse process type for both single order and cross order components.
Single order
Cross order

24)Determine warehouse process type for Single order, cross order along with Document type
and Item type

25) Define Item Types for Production

Path: SPRO-IMG-SCM EWM-Extended Warehouse Management-Goods Issue Process-
Production Material Request-Define Item Types for Production

26) Define Allowed Item Types for Production

Path:SPRO-IMG-SCM EWM-Extended Warehouse Management-Goods Issue Process-

Production Material Request- Define Allowed Item Types for Production

27) Maintain strategies

28)Maintain Sock Determination group & Stock Removal Indicator in /N/SCWM/MAT1

Single order
Cross order
29)Testing

To create production order(Tcode:CO01)

Enter the Total Quantity and type is current date

Check the routing, production version and BOM under Master tab
Click on Operations tab check the work center, plant and control key

Click on Components tab check the raw materials for plant and storage locations

Click on yes
Go to Tcode:CO02

Go to-Functions-WM material Staging-Simulate

Go to Functions-WM Material Staging-Execute

Go to /N/SCWM/PMR

Check the PMR Header

PMR Item details for Single order

PMR Item Details for Cross order

To create warehouse tasks go to (Tcode:/N/SCWM/STAGE)
N/SCWM/MON
1)Single order components

Here we need single order components will be consumed based on production order

2) 2)Cross order components

Here for cross order components there will be no manufacturing number reference’s
components will be consumed based on combination of multiple Manufacturing orders. If we try
to give manufacturing order with warehouse type system will not execute the open warehouse
tasks
Confirm the Single & cross order open warehouse tasks

Here posting change has happened from F2 stock type to P2 Stock type

Check the physical stock in PSA Before consumption

For Consumption we need to do login RF Device

Go to /N/SCWM/RFUI
Check the Goods issue posting was happened in the monitor

Check whether the goods issue has been happened in MB51

Now we need to change the production order status from released to technically completed

Release status:

Go to Production order in CO02 and click on Complete Technically

By above configurations and testing now you got an idea how to do Advance production
Integration with SAP EWM-managed storage location in one warehouse in SAP EWM
