SAP HANA Performance Monitoring

and Analysis (New and Changed)

SAP HANA Performance Monitoring and Analysis now

has new and modified functionality as in SAP HANA
Platform 2.0 SPS 00.
The following tools provide new and enhanced
functionalities starting with SAP HANA 2.0:
CAPTURE AND REPLAY (CHANGED)

The SAP HANA cockpit's capture and playback tool now has new
functionality with SAP HANA 2.0:

When establishing new captures, you can specify the circumstances in

which the capture will be overridden depending on two criteria:

The length of time the capture lasted

The capture uses a lot of storage space.
See Capture a Workload in the Related Links section for
further information
It is possible to compare replays based on the same
capture when replaying the workload.
Compare Replayed Workloads in the Related Links
section for more details.
After replaying the workloads, the Replay Report may be
used to compare query results. In addition, the Load tab
depicts the system load during the replay process.
See the SAP HANA Administration Guide's Replay a
Preprocessed Workload for more information.
WORKLOAD ANALYZER (CHANGED)

The workload analyzer tool in the SAP HANA cockpit has two versions with
SAP HANA 2.0. "Workload analyzer based on thread samples" is the new
name for the workload analyzer from SAP HANA 1.0. "Workload analyzer
based on engine instrumentation" is the name of the new workload
analyzer version. The workload analyzer tool now has the following
changes and additional features:

Using thread samples as input, a workload analyzer is

created (changed)
The graphic depicting system resource utilisation shows
both a current and historical analysis.
A timeline view mapped to the load graph can be used
to visualise the system load.
Engine instrumentation-based workload analyser (new)
This is a capability for assessing workloads that have
been captured. It features load graph visualisation, as
well as a timeline view with application and statement
hierarchy, similar to the sampling-based workload
analyzer.

See the SAP HANA Administration Guide's Analyzing Workloads for further
details.

SQL ANALYZER (NEW)

The SQL Analyzer is accessible in the SAP HANA cockpit and the SAP
HANA Database Explorer with SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 00.
It is possible to analyse and comprehend query
execution and performance features of the SAP HANA
database using this tool. It can be used to see extensive
information about each query and to identify any
bottlenecks in these queries. The tool is similar to the
SAP HANA studio's Plan Visualizer tool.

The SQL Analyzer comes with the following features:

 Overview

 Operator list

 Tables used

 Statement statistics

In the SAP HANA Administration Guide, see Analyzing Statement

Performance for more information.

OTHER PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT TOOLS (CHANGED)

The following SAP HANA cockpit performance management tools have

been improved:

 Performance Monitor

In the SAP HANA Administration Guide, see Monitor and Analyze Past
Performance and Collecting Performance Monitor Data for SAP Support for
further information.

 Monitor Statements

In the SAP HANA Administration Guide, see Monitor and Analyze Critical
Statements for additional details.

 Threads
In the SAP HANA Administration Guide, see Monitor and Analyze Threads
for more information.

 Sessions

In the SAP HANA Administration Guide, see Monitor and Analyze Sessions
for more information.

 Expensive Statements
