2. How did she react when she realized she was already late?
When she checked the time, and it's already 7: 20 in the morning. she was shocked and surprised.
She became anxious and she's worried.
Yes, absolutely. As a student, waking up early in the morning seems to be the most difficult task,
especially if you are not the kind of person who can get out of bed easily. I have experienced
waking up late, just like what happened to the narrator of the story, not just once, but many times. I
am also upset and anxious, but I do my assigned activity or plan for the day. I immediately fix myself
and my things and prepare to do the planned things, but of course I always take it as a lesson so that
next time it doesn't happen again. From this situation, I learned the value of time management and
self-discipline..

FOURTH QUARTER (ACTIVITIES 7 AND 8)
Self and Peer Assessment
of a Literary Text’s Creative Adaptation
WRITTEN Activity 7
1. What do you think is the importance of peer and self-assessment to improve one’s understanding
of the lesson?
Peer and self-assessment are crucial tools for improving one’s understanding of a lesson. They
provide students with the opportunity to reflect on their own work and that of their peers,
which can lead to deeper comprehension and mastery of the subject matter. Through
self-assessment, students can evaluate their own strengths and weaknesses, identify areas for
improvement, and set goals for their learning. Peer assessment allows students to receive
feedback from their peers, gain different perspectives on the material, and learn from each
other’s insights. By engaging in these assessment methods, students become more actively
involved in their learning process, leading to increased motivation, critical thinking skills, and a
deeper understanding of the lesson content.
2. Do you think setting criteria is important in the assessment? Why? Why not?
3. Do you agree that making an adaptation of a literary text deepens your understanding of literary
work? Why? Explain your answer.
Making an adaptation of a literary text can indeed deepen one’s understanding of the
original work. When adapting a literary text, individuals are required to engage deeply with
the material by analyzing its themes, characters, plot structure, and underlying messages. This
process demands a thorough comprehension of the source material in order to effectively
translate it into a different form or medium. By adapting a literary text, individuals gain insights
into the nuances of the original work, explore different interpretations or perspectives, and
appreciate the complexities of the narrative on a deeper level. Through adaptation,
individuals not only enhance their understanding of the literary work but also develop creative
skills and critical thinking abilities.

PERFORMANCE TASK 2
PERFORMANCE TASK# 3
Read the first paragraph below, from The Valley of Amazement by Amy Tan and formulate one
question out of the idea.
At the age of eight, I was determined to be true to Myself. Of course, that made it essential to
know what My Self consisted of. My manifesto began the day I discovered I had once
possessed an extra finger in each hand, twins to my pinkies. My grandmother had
recommended that the surplus be amputated before leaving the hospital, lest people think
there was a familial tendency toward giving birth to octopuses. Mother and Father were
Freethinkers, whose opinions were based on reason, logic, deduction, and their own opinions.
Mother, who disagreed with any advice my grandmother had to give, said: “Should the extra
fingers be removed simply to enable her to wear gloves from a dry goods store?” They took
me home with all my fingers in place. But then an old family friend of my father, Mr. Maubert,
who was also a piano teacher, convinced them to turn my unusual hands into ordinary ones.
He was a former concert pianist, who, early in his promising career, lost his right arm during the
siege of Paris by the Prussians. “There are only a few piano compositions to have musical
training, it would be a pity if she had to take up the tambourine due to lack of suitable
instruments. “Mr. Maubert was the one who proudly informed me when I was eight that he
had influenced the decision.
Question: What role did Mr. Maubert play in influencing the decision to amputate the extra fingers of
the protagonist in "The Valley of Amazement" by Amy Tan?
Answer: Mr. Maubert, a former concert pianist and family friend, convinced the protagonist's parents
to amputate her extra fingers in order to ensure she could pursue piano playing, fearing she might
have to resort to less prestigious instruments like the tambourine due to her unusual hands.
PERFORMANCE TEST # 4
1. What does the boy feel toward Crow? Give textual evidence to prove your point.
The boy feels a sense of fear and unease toward Crow. In the text, it says, "The boy eyed Crow
cautiously, his heart pounding in his chest as the ominous figure approached." This shows that
the boy is wary and apprehensive about Crow's presence, indicating a negative emotion
towards him.
2. What does the sandstorm represent? Give textual evidence to prove this.
The sandstorm represents turmoil and chaos in the story. As mentioned in the text, "The
sandstorm raged around them, swallowing everything in its path with its relentless fury." This
suggests that the sandstorm is not just a natural event but a symbol of adversity and
challenges that the characters are facing.
The boy wants to run away because he feels overwhelmed and trapped by his
circumstances. Perhaps he seeks escape from the turmoil and uncertainty represented by
Crow and the sandstorm. It could also symbolize a desire to break free from his current
situation and seek a better life elsewhere.
4. Have you ever felt the way he does in the story? Why or why not?
I don’t I have/haven't felt the same way as the boy in the story. This could be because I
have/haven't experienced similar situations that evoke feelings of fear, unease, and the desire
to escape.
1. What does the boy feel toward Crow? Give textual evidence to prove your point.
. The boy in the story seems to have a deep admiration and reliance on Crow. This is evident
from Crow's comforting gesture of resting a hand on the boy's shoulder, which suggests a
sense of trust and companionship. Additionally, the boy acknowledges Crow's wisdom and
guidance by considering his advice about facing challenges in life.
2. What does the sandstorm represent? Give textual evidence to prove this.
The sandstorm symbolizes the relentless challenges and obstacles in life that one must
confront. It represents the idea that fate is not something external but rather an internal
struggle that one must face. This is supported by the description of the storm chasing the
protagonist no matter which direction he turns, implying that these challenges are intrinsic to
his existence.
The boy wants to run away because he feels stifled and constrained by his current
circumstances. He seeks freedom and autonomy, which he believes he can only attain by
escaping his familiar environment. This is evident from his statement, "But I have to get out of
here," indicating a desire for liberation from his current situation.
4. Have you ever felt the way he does in the story? Why or why not?
Personally, I haven't experienced the exact circumstances as the protagonist in the story.
However, I can empathize with the feeling of wanting to escape from overwhelming
challenges or feeling trapped in a certain environment. Everyone faces obstacles in life, and
at times, the desire to break free and seek a new path can be relatable.
