Lesson Plan Title: Introduction to Cloud Computing

Grade Level: 8th grade

Objectives:

1. Define what cloud computing is and its benefits.


2. Understand the basic components of cloud computing, including
infrastructure, platform, and software as a service.
3. Identify and describe the different types of cloud services.
4. Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of cloud computing.
5. Demonstrate an understanding of the impact of cloud computing on
society.

Materials Needed:

 Computers with internet access


 Projector and screen
 Whiteboard and markers

Introduction (10 minutes):

 Ask the students if they have ever heard of cloud computing and
what they think it means.
 Introduce the concept of cloud computing as a way to access
computing resources and services over the internet.
 Explain the benefits of cloud computing, including cost savings,
scalability, and flexibility.

Direct Instruction (30 minutes):

 Define the basic components of cloud computing: infrastructure as a


service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and software as a
service (SaaS).
 Describe the different types of cloud services, including public,
private, and hybrid clouds.
 Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of cloud computing,
including data security, availability, and performance.
 Provide real-world examples of cloud computing, such as Amazon
Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud.

Guided Practice (20 minutes):

 Provide the students with a case study of a company that has


adopted cloud computing and ask them to analyze the benefits and
drawbacks of the company's decision.
 Encourage the students to discuss the impact of cloud computing on
society, including how it has changed the way we work and live.
Independent Practice (20 minutes):

 Ask the students to research and compare two cloud computing


providers and write a report on their findings.
 Encourage the students to consider the features, costs, and user
reviews of each provider.

Closure (10 minutes):

 Ask the students to share their reports with the class. Encourage the
students to explain their thought process and reasoning behind their
findings.
 Summarize the main points of the lesson, emphasizing the benefits
and drawbacks of cloud computing and its impact on society
