BACKGROUND
In the era of scientific and technological advancements, particularly in the biomedical
field, the application of "-omics" technologies such as genomics and metabolomics has
brought significant changes in our understanding of biological mechanisms and their
application in healthcare services. These technologies play a crucial role in precision
medicine, early disease detection, and the development of new drugs. This aligns with
Health Law Number 17 of 2023, Article 338, which emphasizes the importance of utilizing
health technologies, including biomedical technologies, in the provision of healthcare
services. The utilization of biomedical technologies mentioned includes genomic,
transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic technologies related to organisms, tissues,
cells, biomolecules, and other biomedical technologies for the benefit of Health Science
and Technology as well as Healthcare Services, towards precision medicine.

Various studies have proven that the application of "-omics" technologies is essential in
advancing the healthcare sector, such as genomics and metabolomics. Genomics plays
a major role in discovering specific genetic variations that function as biomarkers for
preventive, diagnostic, and curative purposes for various diseases, leading to more
personalized and effective treatment strategies. Metabolomics is crucial in identifying
metabolites that can be linked to certain disease conditions or responses to therapies.
The application of biomedical technologies in clinical practice will contribute to major
advancements in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention, thus significantly improving
patient care outcomes.

The development of biomedical research in Indonesia, supported by "-omics"

technologies, has immense potential in assisting the government in achieving national
health development targets. To provide a platform for discussion on the development of
these technologies, the Master’s Program in Biomedical Sciences at the Faculty of
Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara, will organize the 1st Medan International
Conference on Biomedical Science (MICoBioS), which is supported and held concurrently
with the 9th National Scientific Meeting (TEMILNAS IX) and the 14th National Work-
Meeting (RAKERNAS XIV) of the Indonesian Biomedical Sciences Consortium (KIBI), as well
as the TEMILNAS and National Coordination Meeting (RAKORNAS) of the Indonesian
Pharmacology Association (IKAFARI). The theme of this event is "Bridging Omics to
Healthcare: Implementation of Genomics and Metabolomics in Biomedical Research."
This conference is expected to be a platform for academics, researchers, and healthcare
practitioners to discuss, exchange ideas, and build collaborations to accelerate the
implementation of biomedical research and education outcomes.

Abstracts should be submitted through the link provided in the registration form.
All abstracts must be submitted and presented in English.
The presenting author is required to ensure that all co-authors are aware of the
content of the abstract before submission.
All abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee.
The scientific committee will decide whether the abstracts will be presented as oral
presentation or poster.
Presenting author will be notified via e-mail by October 25th 2024 regarding the status
of their abstract.
The abstract will be published in an abstract book with an ISBN (after the conference).
Selected abstracts may proceed to international publication indexed in Scopus and
Sinta 2 (upon agreement and with additional fee).

ABSTRACT PREPARATION GUIDELINE

1. All abstracts must be original work.
2. All abstracts must be submitted online with Microsoft Word file attachment.
3. Abstract must be typed in English: font type-Arial, font size-11pt, spacing 1.5,
paper size A4 (21 cm x 29.7 cm).
4. The abstract must not exceed the 350 word limit, excluding the tittle and
authors.
5. Abstract tittle is written in CAPITAL LETTERS.
6. Authors’ full name shall be written by first name and followed by family name
in upper and lower case.
7. Primary author(s) is the first mentioned. The presenter is underlined.
8. Affiliation details should include the department, institution/hospital,
city/state, country in sequences.
9. Use generic name of drugs. Express numbers as numerals.
10. Abstract contains only Text. Any table/graphs/diagrams should not be
included in the abstract.
11. The abstract consist of four parts: Background/Objective, Methods, Results,
and Conclusion.
