Communicative Language Teaching
Communicative Language Teaching
AIM
DEFINITION
“an approach to foreign or second language teaching which emphasizes that the goal of
language learning is communicative competence” (Richards, et al., Dictionary of
Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics, 1992: 65)
“one of the most characteristic features of communicative language teaching is that it
pays systematic attention to functional as well as structural aspects of language,
combining these into a more fully communicative view” (Littlewood, 1981)
CLT advocates go beyond teaching grammatical rules of the target language, and
propose that, by using the target language in a meaningful way, learners will develop
communicative competence. The communicative approach is concerned with the
unique individual needs of each learner. By making the language relevant to the world
rather than the classroom, learners can acquire the desired skills rapidly and agreeably.

Humanities, Vol 3, Issue 5, 91 , 2015)
